Who Knew?/Volunteers Needed

Who knew Ringo had such great form in 1969?

Not to mention that there is an Association for streaking runners?

Or, that today is National Opposite Day?

Well, on the second one anyway, I seriously doubt I am in this league. Most in the association are onto 3 years - yes that is t-h-r-e-e years streaking. Me? 25 days officially. Soon to be 26 when I am done posting. Husky puppy is licking the back of my neck as I type, so I need to make this brief. She needs her 3 mile running fix just as much as I do.

Question though - I am a music guy. Along with movies and books (especially on music, movies and running ;). So, anyway, do you have an all time fav group, band or artist. Could be Jazz, Pop, Rock, Country, Reggae, Classical, Opera - whatever floats your boat. Do you see any of them as runners? Or, are they runners? Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers is, and so is Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cuties.

I always pictured John Lennon as a runner. In a Forrest Gump running back and forth coast to coast way. Ringo looks to have it all though, and look out for George! He looks like he can run through any and all walls. Paul? Yeah, well whether it is musical lyrics or running - nothing too serious there ("whose that knocking at my door; someone is ringing the bell. then let them in, ya let them in" - deep one Sir Paul).

Opposite Day? I will have to keep thinking on that one. Maybe? :)

Peace Corps listed the colleges or universities that offer the most volunteers for them today. I was happy to see my Alma - University of Washington was number 2 currently and number 2 over all years. Yippee! In fact, two other Washington State schools made the list - Western Washington University, my second choice of instate schools to attend. Plus, Gonzaga University, which I attended for Law School (which lasted three days). Interesting to note I see other schools from areas I would love to live - University of Colorado - Boulder, Vermont, yet I don't see the University of California, Irvine on the list anywhere. Hmm ... ? I guess that is not too surprising.

Anyway, Volunteering. Do any of you have any organizations or causes you give up your free time too? I have four things/groups I volunteer for and soon to be five. Currently Church, Soccer League, Boy Scouts and our kids Elementary and Middle Schools. Number five will be something fun and on the run. I am trying to start a local Youth Running Club, with the goal of organizing some races for Education and Health related Charities. Will see how it goes - non profit of course. In any event, it will keep my Soccer team in shape for each season. :)

Cheers!

I didn't realize you'd been posting. Maybe I didn't follow when the blog address changed? Weird. Anyway, here I am now.

When you said association for streaking runners I totally thought you meant as in "streaking" naked. Anyway, my running streak (fully clothed) is at two days. I believe my record would be 4, but I'm not a big every day runner.

Volunteering...I believe I'll be signing up to help out with my school's Girls on the Run, and I just helped put in some trail, which is volunteering AND serving me. :) I also volunteer at church.

Nope...I already did follow. Thought so. Weird that none have shown up for me. Anyway, I am thoroughly unoffended. You know me...I'd mention if I disagreed with something. :)

Oh, and I tagged you in a question thing if you want to play along.

I love, love, love music. And it's hard to pinpoint a favorite. Not at this exact moment, but for much of my life, Jethro Tull, was a favorite. I saw them in concert 3 times. I do imagine Ian Anderson as a runner, I mean, how else could he have so much energy.

I wish I had more time to volunteer. I volunteer as a chaperone for middle school orchestra outings (my son's orchestra). And I volunteer for other school field trips. I also volunteer for races (aid stations, etc).

I'm on day 37 of my streak. Good luck on yours!

I am a big music lover also but if I have to pick one group I would go with Led Zepellin. I don't' think any of them are runners. I do know that one of my favorite country singers, Jo Dee Messina, is a runner and at one time used the same coach as me. That is kind of cool.

I used to volunteer a lot more. I worked at my son's school and was parent volunteer for his traveling basketball team. Now, I am just too lazy I guess. Maybe I should change that!

I have been thinking more about volunteering. But not in an organization. I'm thinking more one family helping another...but I would love to organize some kid-related things as my kids get older.
Nice streak going...I am on day 18. Ready for a rest day Sunday.
