.... about it ALL.
First things first, Happy
National Peanut Butter Day!!!
Nothing more needs to be said about that! Other than have some today (if you can). The greatest thing between two slices of bread - Peanut butter, Honey and Banana's. Or, have it in a cookie. Why when we make PB Cookies do we do the criss cross with the fork on top? Or, just eat it right out of the jar. Love that scene from Lost.
Yes, yes YES!! Our family had a fun weekend doing the Carlsbad Half Marathon. Yet, there is sooo much more. So, in brief here it is:
1) The Streak is alive and well. Even though I think .2 of my 1.3 miler late Friday was after midnight. Leaving when we could for a 5 hour drive to Carlsbad got us there (meaning hotel room, de-suit cased, and running clothes on) 11:50 PM. After some stretches I was able to run outside around the Hotel, down the street and through a strip mall to get it in. Phew! Close one.
2) Rain! soaking rain greeted us Saturday AM for the kids one mile Marathon at Legoland (which of course was my mile for that day). All of us ran it, or should I say splashed puddled it. Runner Dude #2 finished 4th! in the first wave of kids (11-12 year olds).
3) Rain meant no Legoland for Saturday. Quick walk through the Expo. Off to Lunch eating my favorite Islands Burgers, burger. Then a late afternoon free movie and popcorn for us all! At least the kiddos for participating in the One miler. We saw Hugo - very good movie. Two thumbs up! You must see. Scorsese made a sure to be classic.
4)Race Day! Yeah! finally meant Colorado Runner, Tara briefly before the race. The race - not my best performance. I had some minor issues with cramps in my gut for a few miles. Two unheard of pee pee breaks for me, and twice had to tie shoe laces. Again that never happens either. Yet, considering I am still getting back my shape after injuries - had a good one. No rain as well.
5) The race course - beautiful! Not an easy one (hills, rolling ones) but my favorite race. Well, organized and laid back at the same time. We love it! Will do this one every year. Plus, the Kid One miler makes it fun for the whole family. Great deal 25.00 for each child gets them a race through Legoland, shirt, medal, free tix to Legoland, and the movies/popcorn. Too fun!
6) Skipping! Who knew? During the back portion of the out and back course, the HMer's run beside the Fulls. That was a fun experience. I met 5-6 new runner peeps doing that. My favorite was a couple who skipped the hills together. Meaning they didn't find a flat detour around them :) - they actually skipped up them instead of run them or walk them. Very fun to watch as they did it arm and arm. Loved it!
7) Yeah! got to see Tara (Colorado Runner) again after the race. A brief sighting again, but fun. Since no Legoland the day before - we had at least three of the four needing it now! So, quick two bottles of water, post race yogurt (love that Chobani now), banana, bagel, can of Coke, shower, dress at the Hotel - then back to Legoland (nerd) heaven. You know I never played with them growing up. Yet, my kids? Legos or Nintendo.
8) Husky Puppy Anniversary! It was this race weekend a year ago in which we came home with our baby. The breeder lived near Palm Springs, so a slight detour on the way home landed us my favorite running partner. How did she spend the weekend? At the boarders. :( But, we rushed home late Sunday night to make sure we bailed her out early yesterday.
9) Did I mention the Streak lives. Every day of running since at least Jan 1st. Even though my legs were stiff and tired - not really too sore amazingly - I ran yesterday. With Husky Puppy as we celebrated having her for a year. It was only 1.2 miles, and it was the slowest 1.2 in the history of Slomo running; but it was a run.
10) Post race. Ready for more. The last 5 miles of the Carlsbad HM were really strong. I did have a few issues before that, yet I like how I finished. I had more miles in me after it was done. Not saying I could've done another 13.1, but I had at least 3 more in the tank. Like that feeling. I ran it faster a year ago (shows you what 12 less pounds on your frame can do), but I was happy with the outcome. Progress! Much better than the Vegas Strip Night RR race.
Today, I feel really great. Legs are ready for more. I will get in a 5K tonight at an easy pace. This weekend I want to get in a 15-16 miler. A good Hill workout early next week. Plus, all the daily other miles. Then another race - Surf City here we come!
Surf City Huntington Beach, Ca. Half Marathon. This is another favorite. I must have the 2012 edition surfboard race medal!! However, this one is flatter and closer to the beach. Plus, it is only a few miles from where Mrs. Slomohusky grew up. Homecoming for her. A shorter drive to get there as well. Can't wait!! Surf City here we come.
Cheers!

What a great weekend! I love legos. I had so many when I was growing up. My brother and I would play with them forever!
Skipped up the hills??? Geez, I could barely walk up some of them. Haha!
Glad you guys had a fun weekend; I would like to go to Legoland one of these days, I think that would be fun!
I wondered who was calling my name before the start. I thought for sure someone was looking for another Tara until I spotted you! So fun meeting you face to face and to meet some of your family.
Hi Tara! come back next year then. Or, even better do Disneyland HM. The race is not as scenic, but the Park is ... well, The Happiest Place on Earth. I am thinking of trying something goofy next Jan. - the Goofy Challenge at Disneyworld.
I am thinking I need to get out to Denver or Colorado for a race soon. Too many of ya great Colorado Runners I need to meet in person!!
Darn it how has it taken me so long to get here? It was great sort of meeting you! How fun your whole family came with. I'm in love with that Husky of yours already. Beyond cute. Yay for Surf Ciry. I'd love to run that one someday.
Hey how about Denver RnR in Sept? All the cool kids will be there.
Good to hear you had a great weekend! Definitely can attest that there are many, many hills in that course. The full was horribly hilly! Bleh!
Oh I am so glad I caught this today! Now i can take full advantage :)
2 pee breaks? Got to work on that one!
