Listen? REALLY?

"What say you there Fuzzy Britches? Feel like talking?"
(Warden Samuel Norton; and what he said to a poster of Rachel Welch) Name the movie?

Well, my britches aren't fuzzy. Except for my Husky. Which is one of the many nicknames for her now. Especially, when she doesn't quite clean herself in that "fuzzy britches" area (dingle-berries).

My body seems to have a LOT to say these days.

Guess what? I have decided to listen as well. I hate the phrase - "kicking against the pricks." Yet, it is pretty close to the mark. Right knee issues? Not bad right now. In fact, much better to the point of hardly any notice. Yet, now a new one - or old one. My left ankle/Achilles area pain.

Love it how it is so timely. Recurs whenever it darn pleases. Yet, it never seems to please me. Sharp pain again, which started out as slow developing dull pain. In two-three days I will be able to stop hobbling while walking. Then it will be just pain going up and down stairs; also getting up from sitting for awhile. Then I will walk and feel like running. Which I usually do at the 5-6 day point of each outbreak of pain in the same area. Then it will be an occasional tweak or two while running for a few runs. After that - nothing! So, yep it is about 6-8 day thing (sometimes 10).

My body speaks very loudly right now in many ways though. Not to mention (but, I guess I will) I have constant hip pain along with a lower back on and offer.

Currently, I am typing with ice on my left Achilles/ankle, instead of running 8-9 miles. Which is how I am dealing with it all at the moment. Tomorrow? The day after that? Well, I have a race May 1st. What shall I do?

Listening to the body and tossing in the towel for awhile is screaming at me right now. Awhile? 2 weeks? A month? 2 Months? More?

All options are on the table at this point.

"What say you there fuzzy britches?" Any advice?

Thomas Jefferson? Wow, some fun followers - actually I like to call you friends. Commented on one of my "off running posts". Fun. Fun in that these post like the non Alien Colonization episodes from the X-Files - keep things rounded (and in the case of the X-files, prolonged needlessly).

I throw them out there because, one, there is more reasons to me than just running. Plus, I like to find out if there is more reason to my friends than just running.

Anyway, I have a high appreciation of Thomas Jefferson. Yet, if you take literally what he inked for the world in the Declaration of Independence - "we hold these truths as self evident; that ALL men are created equal." While, he, himself owned over a 100 slaves. A certain amount of head scratching can be applied. Along with a HUGE loudly and morally heard - WHAT THE?.

Our Founding Fathers had to compromise to bring about our nation, not to mention one of the great ones. Who had to compromise with himself as well it seems. I still look upon Thomas Jefferson with a great amount of admiration and enlightenment. However, even he knew the meaning of "states rights" as he became President. He knew what that phrase was protecting.

John Adams? I have grown to have a HUGE appreciation for him as I have gotten older. Faults? yes, as Thomas Jefferson had. Just different ones.

Cheers?

I post "off-topic" all the time. I figure, it's my blog. Hopefully what I write is interesting to other people, too, but it's me...and I'm (especially right now!) more than just running.

I hear you on the Achilles. That's what I've been dealing with, too. I've scrapped one long run, cut another short (of course, that was just general suckiness rather than Achilles-induced. Icing, stretching, and wearing a stiff ankle brace (my ghetto boot) to bed to keep my foot flexed. Actually, the last seems to be helping the most. I have a race May 1. My first marathon. I have the dr's permission to run it. If the Achilles still is bothering me after that, I'll continued to rest it and spend more time on the bike for a while.

Of course, I say that while at the same time having my eye on a new 5K PR at a local race the end of May. :) Good luck making the right choice for you!

If I cut off my good foot and give it to your bad foot, we'd at least make one solid runner! :)

Hope it heals quickly!!
