Happy Weekend to one and all. Hope Julie is having a great day after her first Marathon, and Stacey enjoyed all that is St. George. If anyone else ran this weekend - hope it was fun and injury free.
I was just thinking about running particular distances as I make up a schedule for the upcoming week. Question what is your favorite distance to run? Not the one you typically run, but your favorite distance. It could be a training run or race.
In training, I have a 5 mile route I have worn out. I do this route 2 times a week typically. Plus, most of this route is used as a base for higher distances. Yet, 5 miles is not my favorite distance. My favorite distance to run is 9-10 miles generally. Mainly due to time convenience of doing it. The time it takes me to do it, fits into most daily schedules and gives me a really good workout or sense of accomplishment. Races - easy - HM's. I really like the 13.1 distance. Always gives me a challenge and doesn't (completely) beat me up the next day. I can usually be back running after a few days rest. I have also had a number of HM's of late where I was ready to do it again minutes after crossing the finish.
Which leads me to where I am at now? What's next? I have the Full Marathon training getting under way this week. I am not a complete newbie to this distance and training. Yet, that experience was along time ago and what seems a different BODY ago. I am much slower now for one. Injury, age and some arthritis has left me with a much slower version of the past me. Yet, I find I have much greater desires now, at my age to strive or compel my body to longer distances. I now want to find out if 15-16 milers will be my new favorite distances. I want to find out if 26.2, 50K or even 50 miles is my new favorite race. We will see. Tomorrow begins this journey for me. Lets just hope it is injury free. :)
Cheers!

I love you for putting me on your list! You are always welcome to come run with me, we have a cool 20K/50K/50M trail run, on the very same trails you saw a picture of today. I like 6 miles and 13 miles, not sure why, but they seem to be my faves!
It sounds like you're excited to start your marathon training! Start off slowly and build easily and I'm sure you'll have a great training season. I guess I just like the long distances. Half marathons are nice but I always feel like they aren't quite enough, although the training is great and less time consuming. The marathon is my baby, there is something about that distance. The training though, has taken a lot from our normal routine, probably because Steve is training too. We just aren't cleaning, visiting and being as social but hey, somethings have to give, right?
It will be fun following your training, as always!
Haven't forgotten about the book...just waiting on an over-worked PT who has been on his own for two weeks. So sorry Slomo :) ! The check's in the mail !
Enjoy the marathon training!
My favorite training runs are 10K and my favorite races are HM for now...haven't done a full yet.
Hmmm. Favorite distance to run? Maybe 10k? That ends before I start hurting. Favorite distance to race? I've gotten my best official pace to date in today's HM, so right now I'm a fan of that. :)
I think my favorite distance is somewhere between 5 and 10 miles. Not so specific, I know!
I am excited to see your marathon training progress! Hye I am thinking about coming down for Death Valley Marathon in December and will probably come to LV to see some friends.... just sayin' :)
My favorite race distance is the marathon (I guess I like to suffer a bit) and my favorite training distance is probably 10 miles.
Get pumped baby... keep us posted on your marathon training progress. It helps motivate me... Maybe someday, you can come up to NY and train... NYC marathon next year, perhaps? Haha! Thanks for sharing.
Hi RBR Great to hear from ya! Dec. 4th? I will have a busy one that weekend. 5K Santa Run Sat. and Still might (most likely) do the Vegas RR HM Sun. IF your not completely beat to hell running death valley - RR Vegas might be a good meet up? R u doing the marathon at DV?
I totally agree with you on the half marathon thing! I think I am so used to them now that they seem easy to me. I just wish I could break a certain time....Grrr! You will do great with your marathon training:)
My favorite distance is the marathon because it's the longest I've ever run and it's a huge challenge for me. You've got some fun races to look forward to! Thanks for the shout-out!
