I got my smooth back. I have no idea what that means exactly. Yet, well, smooth it is. Smooth running, soccer practices, music, eating, talking and living. I have that Even Steven feeling Jerry Seinfeld has going for him. You know the episode. Jerry throws a 20.00 bill out the window. Boom moments later HE finds a 20.00 bill. Smooth.
Running. Smooth 5 and 7 miler this week thus far. 5K tomorrow - and - it will be (of course) a smooth one. Easy 3.1. Sunday, yes, my typical running Sabbath will have me putting in a long one early AM. Well, long in the 9-10 mile range. Then I am taking a few days off. Remember - the gradual thing? Then I officially jump into Disneyworld (or is it Disney World?) Marathon Training, with a Long Beach Half Mary and Crystal Cove 10 mile Trial Run along the way.
Speaking of Smooth, music that is. I think it was EMZ who asked about music to run with and some new ideas. The question came at a good time for me. The smoothest sounds running for me of late have been of all things :
The Good, Bad and Ugly soundtrack (trust me it really gets me going by the Duel scene), Ennio Morricone is a fav.
Love and Rockets - Express
Sigue Sigue Sputnik - Flaunt it. I know this was hit and miss for most way back when. Yet, for me an out of the park homer.
Hoodu Gurus - Magna Cum Loude
Jesus and Mary Chain - First three Albums.
Robyn Hitchcock and The Jazz Butcher for the fun of it.
All this, The Mavericks, and of course the Stones Exile on Main Street have me buzzing along these days.
BTW, before I sign off - clarification. Lots of people Rock my running world. My wife and soul mate comes in first though. Yet, I do want point out a few runners that make it happen for me:
1) My little runner girl (daughter) and dudes (sons).
2) Jamie Donaldson - Determination and Super Human feats of strength. Enough said! Well, that and a really cool looking dog named Morrison. Running the desert is good for ya. If you don't believe me, ask her.
3) Meg and BS. I wish I was 5 again, living in San Diego or both. Well, 44 and in SD would be pretty Fab as well.
4) Glenn Jones. My favorite OC runner and someone who just seems like everyone's next best friend.
5) Happy Trails. Those trails look toooo gooood! Plus see above, except for Colorado Springs instead of the OC.
5) Stacey - my favorite runner from Utah, well after my Sister of course. Trust, me that says a lot because I know a lot of runners in Utah. Plus, if I had a soul sister (if that is possible? yah, I think so) just might be her.
6) Super Jock and Jill. Smart, classy and funny. Good luck on your first Ultra.
7) EMZ - see above.
8) Tara - too cute, funny and fun. Can't wait to do a Colorado race to meet her, Super Jock and Jill, and Happy Trails. Anyone else want to come along?
9) Jen. I have a reason to really like the state of Mississippi with you there (please take that one in a good way - please!). Plus, always something that hits the right spot in her postings. Watch out for the dogs!
9) Jeri. She just has too much fun living and running in South Dakota.
10) RBR - I have to do a SF Marathon with you some day or a trail run in the Bay area. Mainly so she has someones ass to beat on the trail :). Also, for the biological, botanical and zoological running tour on the trails.
11) Dirt Diva - fun! inspirational, style and great hair.
12) Kelly of Running Free - She makes me smile, which means a lot.
13) Run Dangerously - if I could ever keep up with him - I would run any and all runs with him.
14) RPD - see above.
15) Trail Toe Runner. Californian who loves my hometown now more than I ever did it seems. That says a lot! I miss Seattle.
16) Julie - I really have a soft spot for Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska and especially Kansas. Julie is from Minnesota. In every sense of the all that is good about the people of that State; and all the others just listed - Julie seems to be it, or have it. The very definition of sweetness and being a good neighbor. Just really great people in the Midwest.
17) Kate - see above. Did you see the new St. Louis Rock and Roll announced this week?
18) Cynical Dirt Doll - if I knew you were in Kansas along with all your running friends - I might not have moved to Vegas. Well, I take that back - the winters were unbearable.
19) Green Runner Girl. Good to be green! Thanks for all your fun comments. I am sure we will run into each other at a Cali race soon.
20) Oh and of course, Kara Goucher, Paula Radcliffe, Jim fixx, Terry Fox, Bill Rogers, Pre, Deana Kastor, Gretta, anyone running barefoot and liking it, plus of course Gump (well not really), Bo Jackson, Marshall Faulk, Barry Sanders, and Gayle Sayers (Great football TB/RB's count as well).
22) S & W. Thanks now I know who cheered my name on at the Disneyland HM finish. How is Brooks treating ya!
21) everyone else as well! I have yet to meet anyone who runs - who isn't smart, fun, funny, great temperament, having more than one great story to tell, and lives a perfect life. Look forward to meeting more of ya. Keep kicking and Flaunt It Runners!
Cheers!

Awww! I feel so special! I mean really! Mississippi would love you to my Las Vegas Friends! If you EVER, ever wish to visit the Gulf Coast or New Orleans I would love to be a tour/running guide. Did you know there is a bug museum in NOLA? Kids love it!
Glad the running is good Slomo - it is hard to beat that smooth groove when you get into it!!! Have a great week!
Hi Slomo,
Cheers to getting the smooth back! I have a feeling that you are going to have many fantastic future races!
Okay, you are going to make me cry again:) Slomo you are the best! Keep the awesome blog posts coming and I will keep reading and commenting! Hugs! I hope that you have a wonderful weekend!
You totally made my day!! Thank you!! It's going to be a VERY long road to my ultra, but I'll be carrying you along with every step in my heart! Glad things are moving forward in a positive way for you - that makes me super happy! :)
Oh...and I'm originally from Iowa. Born and raised. Just saying! :) Happy Weekend to you!
Awww. Thanks for the shout Slomo. That's soooo nice. I'm a little embarassed now...
See you in Long Beach. Check your email next week for some social activities...
You are ONE smooth dude...you seemed to mention just about every blogger out there and a lot of my favorites too...that's you though, always passing on the kindness and good words! That's why we all regard YOU so highly...oh, that AND your parenting, husbanding, running, choice of music, etc., etc.
Have a great rest of the weekend!!
Somehow I missed this when it first posted...darn job keeping me away from my blog friends...but I'm glad I didn't miss that I made the list! :)
After the way summer kind of roughed you all up for a while there, I'm glad it's smooth sailing (or running) for now. I did see the R&R St. Louis coming--big news here--but I haven't decided what I want to do about it. I know so many people love them, but I'm thinking maybe if I spend the money to do one of their races I'll do it as a destination race rather than so close to home. (But not San Diego after your report! :D).
My first half marathon is tomorrow morning...heading to bed now!
Its so nice when you find that groove to run in, makes it all worth while
You always give me the sweetest bloggy shout outs. I love it! I'm glad things are going smooooooth over there. And excited that you're ready to get going on Disney World training! Whoo!!!!! I'm hoping everything works out for me to be in attendance as well. :)
