Happy Easter

Happy Good Friday to everyone and have a great weekend! There is something about the color of dyed eggs? Just says happy childhood and Spring to me.

My running is coming around slowly. Mainly on purpose, but yeah the body and legs just don't have that bounce back yet. My ankle (yes, I am doing my best to ignore it) said hello 1.5 miles into a 5 miler today. Noticeable sharp pain. It lasted for about 20-30 feet, then went away. Only to come back slightly duller a little later, than it was gone again. Overall, the run was okay. Nothing to sing or dance about. I have 29 days till the OC Half Marathon. As long the ankle holds up, I will have plenty of time to get the spring back in the legs.

Oh, found about a nice side promotion to the OC race. At least to those who ran Surf City in Feb. If you finish with a better time than Surf City at OC, you are eligible for a trip contest to Maui to run the Maui Full or Half Marathon. Not bad? :)

Anyone out there got any ideas for a July Marathon? I have been looking at the schedule and thus far SF and Missoula, Mt. are the two that stand out. The latter is starting to have the most appeal.

I have been doing a number of big city or Cali Coast events. Growing up in Seattle, one of our favorite trips every other year was going to Western Montana and then heading South down to Yellowstone. So, beautiful and it has been, well - 10 years since I have been to this area. Missoula is a favorite Rocky Mt. College town of mine. Really nice trails to run along the Clark Fork River there. The Madison River Valley is great for Fly Fishing as well. I think this could be a really nice family vacation - visiting Yellowstone, The Tetons, Fly Fishing and the Missoula Marathon.

Oh, before I go comments about Vegas Rock and Roll. Sorry, did not want to upset any plans some of ya had been making to run this in December. I just think 145.00 is a lot for this course. At least for me because I live here. The Strip doesn't do it for me much in the first place. Yet, this is the highlight of running this Marathon.

I did it once, and it doesn't really inspire me much to do it again. Especially at this price. The rest of the Full course is okay, but it goes through neighborhoods I see not everyday, but at least several times a month. So, for locals, this really is paying a lot. For out of towners, doing a Vegas unique type of event - have fun! I am sure you will have a great time. It does get cold that time of year here though. It was 34 at the start and never seemed to warm up last year. The Kenyan who won even complained about the cold and wind.

Now don't get me started on who much I liked Surf City! As I mentioned - annual event for me now.

Have a great Easter Weekend!

San Francisco is my July vote for you. It's foggy in the morning but it's such a fun trip for the family! We literally walked for the whole day the day before the race and we had so much fun!
Colorado halfs in July sound like more fun though...Happy Easter and I hope the kids have a blast...and you two too!

Sorry to contradict Meg here. Montana baby!!!! Rivers, fly fishing and Yellowstone make it all worth it. In case you can't tell, Montana is my *favorite* place in the U.S.

Happy Easter Slomo and your familty too! I can't really add much for the location competition going on here, I would probably do both if I could afford it! Take it easy on that ankle! Cheers!

I have no advice on a july marathon. 26.2 in july? You couldn't pay me. :p You didn't deter me from vegas, but I'm glad you expanded on why you don't think it's worth the money. totally makes sense from a "local's" perspective. :)

Hi Jeri,

Most runners I have talked with are more than disappointed with the costs. You can get a decent feel for the mood on the pricing by checking out the Vegas R&R Facebook Wall. Vegas needs the tourism (it is the only real dollars in town given we have 14% unemployment right now in Vegas) and a city full of runners is better than a city full of gamblers to me. Yet, if I had to volunteer my money to run a Rock and Roll event - San Diego, Phoenix and Seattle have more appeal. Still smartin' over missing the Seattle registration!

Heat in July? In July I am running 10 miles or more in 95-97 degree weather - and this is at 4:00 AM!! :(
