Very nice Easter Weekend. Started with a nice Friday afternoon run of 5 miles. Movie for the Family and dinner after. I skipped the movie and stayed home with the younger two while icing my ankle and right knee post run. My wife took the older two, and then dinner meet up after.
Saturday, another run early AM of 6 miles. Then two Easter Egg Hunts for the kids. After that a day of back and forth shopping, cleaning and getting Saturday stuff done. Stuff I have not been able to do for the last three weeks due to Soccer Saturdays.
Sunday, nice day home with the kids. Then enjoyed a nice Easter dinner shared with my Nephew, his wife and little girl. Fun evening. Strange how life happens. We live 15 minutes from each other, yet this was the first "real" visit with them since Surf City Marathon back in February. Busy, busy, busy.
Anyway, last nights chat gave us a chance to get caught up on life and all things running. My nephew is doing some Tri's in the coming months. All of us look like were headed towards a family reunion at St. George if lottey luck smiles. My Sister gets in every year since she has been doing this event more than 10 years now. I have to admit though (again) outside of it being a family thing - I am not too excited for St. George now.
I look at the Calendar and I see one too many races I would like to do instead now. Los Angeles Rock and Roll Half Marathon, plus the Long Beach Marathon has more appeal to me now as a full for Fall. Maybe I am just thinking I can reproduce the same Surf City feel there. St. George is an appealing race though with a ton of great support. Will see what fate brings.
The running. 11 miles in less than 48 hours. Most miles I have done back to back in a month. The ankle on Friday said hello a few times. Saturday, nothing during the run. I do have Shin Splint issues now on the same leg. Hmmm ...? Something bio-mechanical going on now with my left foot and leg? Could be? I rarely get Shin Splints. Will see how it works out through the week.
Today. Depends on the weather. Another day and another day of Wind. Big wind again today with gusts over 50. Not fun to run in the desert wind. Lungs full of desert real estate (dust, sand and who knows what) filling up your breathing tissues, not a good thing. Treadmill tonight for 3 miles most likely.
Tuesday. Early AM 7 miler if the wind blows away. Soccer practice in the evening.
Wednesday. Rest
Thursday. Early AM 7 Miler. Soccer Practice.
Friday. Early AM 3 miler.
Saturday. Early AM 9 miler. Four Soccer games.
Will see how it all comes together this week. Another busy week with everything else as well. It will be the most mileage I have done since the end of Feb - early March.

Hi Slomo! Happy Easter to you too! Sounds like you had a busy, yet wonderful weekend with your family.
My daughter is almost 15 and we still dye eggs together. I'm glad that she still likes to do these things with me.
Great job getting your long run in, but sorry about those shin splints. I really hope that's not what they are!
My daughter's 19 and in college and we dye eggs still, I love it.
St. George is a lottery so not sure if you want enter that as they pick early May. It was my first BQer and a gorgeous course! I'd love to do one along the beach sometime...other than Big Sur, which I did two years ago. But actually, I wouldn't mind doing that one again some year. Maybe you'll join me :).
Hope your shin splints feel better, that's one I haven't had since I was in high school (and it was a shoe thing then. Needed heal lifts).
Have a great week, Slomo!
Hi Tara and Jill,
Welcome back Tara, sounds like a fun trip. I just read your blog posting. Black recovery socks and bikini? I get plenty of grief from my wife when I wear them as well though :). I have never been to Hawaii believe it or not. Been all over but never there. My wife threatens to take me there - I am still waiting.
Jill, I have already registered for STG. Waiting for lottery results. If my Irish luck is not smiling I have the backup races in SoCal to do. I am shooting for Big Sur in 2011 BTW.
Tara, and Jill - coloring eggs is the best. Something about the smell of vinegar and food coloring I guess? :)
Thanks for stopping by! Yeah Shin Splints? Last I had those was in College I think? Very rare thing for me obviously. I will try to run through them along with the ankle thing.
Hi Slomo,
I am glad that you and your family had a nice Easter!! You still sound so busy...never a dull moment in the Slomo household:) Way to get those runs in and I am so proud of you for icing!! Good boy!
This is the first year that we did not dye eggs:( I got yelled at from my daughter and my little guy!! I felt really bad and told them that we could do double next year:) Take care!
Glad to hear you had a great Easter and also some good running Slomo. Australian Shepherds do not fare well with dye and eggs, so we generally pass on that but glad you had fun with it!! The wind is a drag - we had so much today that you could barely see the mountains from across town through the dust cloud. Make sure you blow it all out when you're done!!!
You've done Long Beach before right? I like it better than Surf City - I thought the scenery was much nicer and no out and backs.
I think I read the same article about post marathon recovery not too long ago. I think my problem is mostly in my head at this point. I have lots of tweaks and niggles and am lacking motivation, but once I get my feet moving everything is fine. Go figure....
What a beautiful Easter weekend! I think you should look farther north for a marathon... like say, San Francisco?
MUCH prettier city than LA in this runner's humble, not at all biased, opinion :)
