(Not my actual legs depicted)
Finally! The spring/bounce has returned. The last my legs felt this good was the night run before my ankle injury. Injury which still remains a mystery some, but I can honestly say after a month and 10 days - I am officially recovered.
Last night a really nice 6.5 mile run. It was not as fast the above mentioned Eve of Injury Run - but man it felt good. The glide, the freshness and bounce was definitely back with no pain. Shin pain? - yeah, it was there with the first few strides. Then oddly it just vanished. Plus, the big test - no next AM pain - ANYWHERE! Yep, I am feeling a sense of triumph and victory. I have my legs back!
Part of my triumph is due largely to listening to my body. I had scheduled to run the night before (Monday) for a 3-4 mile treadmill run (due to the 50 mph wind). As that day progressed my Shin pain seemed to get worse. Decided, it might be best to go with two days off resting this a little longer. Plus, I think this is what caused the Shin pain in the first place the week before - the treadmill. I guess it was a smart decision.
So, anyway, with two days rest and only minor Shin pain yesterday and no ankle issues - nice run last night. Interesting how the Shin really hurt with each first few steps, than magical - poof - it was gone? Overall, the run felt so good I wanted to go and easily could've gone 9-10 miles last night. Yet, again a late start to the run. Didn't leave the house till 9:30 PM. This part of the run (late start) I am feeling this AM. I am just dragging today. Sleep would be a nice thing right now.
Tonight, no soccer or any other family activities planned. So, I should be able leave early evening for a nice 7 miler. Then crash.
Rest of the week since I took Monday off as follows:
Tonight - 7 mile flat tempo run.
Thursday - Rest
Friday - 5 mile Hill run.
Saturday - 9-10 flat mile run.
Slice of Slomo Happiness:
1. Teasing my wife with the dream I had last night. I had the dream her and I ran a 5K together. She hates it when I have that dream. As I have said before, my wife does not have a running bone or muscle in her body. Yet, she still puts up with me and my running obsessions.
2. My oldest boys and their Dairy of a Wimpy Kid potty humor. A little bit of it is kinda fun. I know too much .....? Still pretty fun.
3. Sleep
4. My in-laws. I think they made a Vegetarian (which is a happy thing) of me. They actually had a Lamb they were raising (they have a huge yard in rural Utah, with the former Lamb - Cocoa, 6 Chickens, and two goats) killed, butchered and ate it for a pre-Easter feast. YUCK! Awful! It was so cute and my kids loved it. I just can't eat any meat now thinking of it, yet even before this I would never eat Lamb. Just making sure we hide our Goldfish from them when they visit next. :)
5. Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Dave Brubeck, Django, Chico and Harpo.
6. Groucho
7. Arrested Development
8. Yogurt, Banana and Diet Dr. Pepper - Breakfast of Champions
9. Gayles Bakery
10. Capitola, Ca.
Cheers!

Springy legs are GOOOOOOOOOD! Welcome back Slomo Running Machine!
mmmmmm .... Lamb Chops. ;-)
YES!! So happy the legs are moving and behaving! I love the banana and yogurt but I'd have to replace the Dr. Pepper with a diet coke. :). Enjoy your day, Slomo!
Hmmm...boys and potty humor seem to go hand in hand. Hey, some "men" still like that too. Just sayin'!
I'm happy you're back on the road and listening to your body. That seems to be a common thread for all of us...we need to do that more often!
Rest up tonight!
Hi Slomo,
Woo hoo, you got your Tigger bounce back:) Awesome news! Funny about the dream with you and your wife running a 5k together:) My hubby doesn't run either so I can totally relate to this one!
Have a good one Slomo:)
Yea for your springtime legs! Bummer about the lamb, although I love lamb chops (not the puppet)not sure I could eat one that had a name... Run smart!
Yay for vegetarianism! That's exactly why I went vego, I spent time around cute little animals and realized that they had a soul and personality and now I can't eat them!!
I'm so glad that your bounce is back Slomo and that they icky aches and pains are leaving you alone.
My husband doesn't like to run either, so we should both be very appreciative of our spouses! I'm not sure how they put up with our running obsession, but bless them that they do!
Have a great weekend Slomo.
