It Has Been a Week .... ?

Been that long since my last post? Numbers on the calendar of life don't lie. Busy, busy bee. Being flexible takes on new personal meanings during times like this. Amazing how being 15 minutes late or early can have such an impact when 24 hours seem not enough for any day. Oh well, this to shall pass, and it has. At least for this AM.

Finally, I have time to read some blog postings I have missed over the last few days. Funny, after reading a number of them, more than a few have similar themes. No matter if the writer is in SE, Rocky Mts, Midwest, Seattle or California. Life can be catchy.

Anyway, it seems more than a few are having GI issues of late. Sorry about this one. It does come and go (no pun intended) with me as well. I have had Diverticulitis in the past. When it was bad - it was BAD. Awfully painful stuff. It put me in the Hospital for my first and only overnight stay. So, anyway, even though I have not a flare up in years now - I have great sympathy. Plus, running with GI issues - the worst. The first 4 miles of my Phoenix Rock and Roll in Jan. - I just wanted to throw up, but couldn't. Sorry for the yuck of it all.

Well, as I have mentioned I missed the Havasu HM this past weekend at Lake Havasu, Arizona (just in case the name didn't give away the location). My volunteer Soccer Coaching trumped running this. Which I am glad it did. One, my little girls team played really well. I would've kicked myself missing that one. Really good group of future Mia Hamm's I have this time around. Fun too and very smart. Plus, I got a report from someone who made the two hour drive South to run it. Not good. Nasty wind running and not the best organized event. They ran out of water and cups for it as well. Yikes!

I am thinking for future races - I will plan before and after Soccer Season. It really is hard to maintain my weekly running schedule during Soccer. Just a lot going on with not only coaching two teams (which I will not do again) and all four of my kids playing on four different teams. With each having different schedules for practice and Saturday games. Plus, we have Ballet, Scouts and Piano going on as well for the kids. Doing all this while maintaining both my wife's and my own Realworld schedules - kind of a lot to keep going. While also trying to find those minutes and hours for the training runs each week.

Last week I fell short on the mileage I was hoping for. Yet, I was not too disappointed. I am however, kinda giving up on a PR for the OC HM coming up. Will see, but I think this one will be a fun 36 hour getaway to the beach and, oh, run 13 miles. Meet some new peeps, enjoy the experience, have fun and get a new medal with my kiddos cheering me at the finish. Nothing wrong, and certainly everything right with all that!

My happy aches and pain keep popping up as well. They come and go these days. I can actually go several days without any ankle or shin pain. Then only to have it be the highlight of my next run. Today was the latter. Early AM 7 miler. Started out with Shin pain that finally subsided 2 miles in. Then my ankle said hello the last 2 miles. Nothing that is keeping me from walking normal or running though. Yet, it is there.

The run overall was not the best, but not bad. Chilly wind this AM. We have gone from the 80's over the weekend to upper 50's yesterday. This AM it was 48 when I left the house. Felt slow and little sluggish. Yet I only had yogurt and handful of peanuts the night before for a Dinner on the run (family stuff not actual running - run). Same way my Mariners are starting out their new Baseball season I guess.

Happy though and keeping things going. Excited for another week of Soccer. Plus, looking forward to some time in the OC running and hitting the Beaches in May, and then the same for San Diego a month later. I have yet think through (decide on) a July FULL Marathon event of late. Having the time for a family vacation and how much of it will be the deciding factor.

Have a great week out there - and good luck in Boston Meg, Jill and anyone else! Thanks for the slice of Maui Tara. Fun pix and congrats to you and your hubby. Happy Trails - keep it just that. Looks like spring is finding you on the trails - finally! Likewise to Minnesota and S. Dakota runners! Humidity I am sure will be the next season soon for all of you and those in the South (Texas and Mississippi). Keep eating healthy Glenn! Keep running in Seattle! Great to hear from ya RBR. Have a great day everyone!

Cheers!

It must be in the air! I've had nothing but a rocky road getting back into the swing of things ever since L.A. Marathon. The way I look at things, it can only go one way from here right?

Slomo, you are a busy man and yet so very happy with all of it. As in Meg's post you have the 'winners brain' as far as I am concerned! Have a great weekend! And yes, the humidity is getting out of control, good ol' Mississippi.

Hi Slomo! I've been reading about a lot of GI issues too, must be reading the same blogs.

Sorry about all of your happy aches and pains. I wish that they would stop popping up.

Good luck on finding a FULL July marathon! Wow! And planning a vacation? You are a busy bee.

Hope you are having a great week!
