Woo Hoo and Skippy Doo, Too!!!

Finally! Some resolution and good news. My Doc loves me. She could not see me, but her office had me get some X-rays and see another MD. No break or fracture seen. He confirmed what the 90 second MD co-worker glance of my wife told me. I do have a follow up with my Doc next week. Much sooner than March 19th. Last night the MD did confirm what my Podiatrist friend said as well. One X-ray does not always catch it. He said my Doc will probably have more done next week if I continue to have pain. Along with an Ortho consult and MRI.

He just labeled it a sprain. Gave me a prescription for high dose of Naproxen (There you have it Glenn). Told me to do the exercises a PT friend of my wife gave yesterday - kind of a cool thing really. I am to pretend I have a paint brush or pencil in-between my toes and do some air guitar ABC's with my foot. Shaping each Capital letter in the air. It works! It really does stretch the ankle in every possible range of motion it will go, stretching the inflamed ligament. It helps with the pain.

Running? Here is the Skippy Doo, too part. I can run! He actually encouraged it after a few more days rest this weekend. He said I should be able to put in some miles starting Monday or even Sunday. Whatever the foot can tolerate at first. If it gets worse stop running and wait till my Doc sees it next week.

So, nothing too serious - I hope. It is not a ligament that normally gets strained like this without a major twisting of the ankle though. All the miles I have been doing, races and higher paces probably pushed my 43 year old muscle to a breaking point. Especially on high mileage pair of kicks. Maybe doing an HM race a month is too much?:) I will hold off till Havasu HM in April for my next one. NO races for March and hold back the pace for a time once I have a healed ankle.

Thanks for the concern out there. Blogging about this was actually therapeutic in a big way. Helped with getting the issue out my mind, so I can concentrate on more important realworld things and life. Great advice and the comments all helped keep things chipper! Still, I am thinking I need to take up biking as well. I have all my athletic adventures in one basket so to speak. I love endurance sports. I need another one going just in case I cannot do the other for a period of time. I would go crazy if I cannot get out and just go 4-5 times a week.

Have a great weekend and thanks for all the vibes!

Cheers!

I'm so happy you got in to see someone and that there isn't any fracture, etc. I love it when they send you back out on the road for more running, great advice. Take care of yourself though! Have a nice weekend.

Woo frickin Hooooo! Best news of the Day Slomo - happy for ya! You can't see it but doing back flips for ya... Three cheers for no broken bones.

Never pegged you for a Neil Young guy - back in my youth, I went to some Neil Young concerts - man puts on a whale of a show. Met some INTERESTING folk at those too!!

Happy Trails - Not too much he has done I would not own - listening to over and over, or see live. Harvest, Harvest Moon, Freedom, I all like the Crazy Horse stuff as well some of his Buffalo Springfield days. He and KD Lang were great at the Olympics ceremonies. But, I have thing for Canadian Artists. Vancouver group from late 80's early 90's called Grapes of Wrath is a favorite. "Keep on Rockin in the Free World."

Praise the Lord. So glad it's nothing serious, and you'll be back on your (running) feet before long. The ABC's are amazing. I used to sprain my ankles in basketball all the time and would have to air-write the ABC's all day long in school. Totally worked though.
