I Have to Admit Things Are Getting Better

Well, it is not like I am forced to admit it? I just like any chance to label a blog entry with a Beatles reference. Waking up this AM no pain!!! Stiff and the motion is still labored while walking. Yet, no biting, sharp pain. I am shooting for Monday AM for my first miles. Hopefully no problems.

I am not sure what has been more frustrating the pain and not knowing exactly what the injury was. Especially, since nothing running or my every day life would've cause an ankle sprain. Or, just knowing even if I called my Doc in the first place - it would have taken three weeks to see her. In the meantime do I treat it like a stress fracture (thanks Puddle Thumper for your thoughts), which was my main worry. Or, blow it off as Tendinitis (Thanks Glenn). Just labeling it a sprain seems odd to me? Oh well? I will move on now.

Today, after I do some Soccer stuff, last basketball game for the older boys and team party - bike shopping. Yep, I am moving on and following through on the idea hatched out of all this. Honestly, I know - I am an addict.

Addicted to sweat, rubber legs, happy aches and pain, and that unquantifiable feeling I get during a fabulous 10 mile run. Since, I am sure this will not be my last of this particular running injury. Geez, I am 43 going on 65 with most the joints in body. Football, wrestling and lots of weightlifting has left my body a mess. Cycling should be the cure to endurance withdrawls during the running down times.

I have biked before in my life regularly. The last time I was living in my hometown of Seattle. It was my mode of transportation to work three times a week. It was 20 miles roundtrip 90% of which on the best urban biking trail in the US, Sammamish Slough/Burke Gilman Trail. Friday's in the late Spring and Summer I would go for even longer stretches. Meeting up with friends in Fremont or Ballard for dinner on the ride home from Redmond, Wa. I lived somewhere in between those points and worked in Redmond. It was fun. I miss that about Seattle. The other two days a week I drove, and I can honestly say due to all the traffic - it was faster for me to bike to work than drive!

So, I start my shopping trip to the generically name Bike Shop close to where I live, and I will check out REI's selection. I have been leery of them in the past for bikes - yet I have a friend who swears by there Navoro (sp) bikes. Anyway, nothing too costly. Just something to get me from a to b, with some speed and a decent ride.

Thanks again for all the support out there again. Have a great weekend!

Cheers!

Good on ya Slomo - glad it's on the up and up! Run into any bike ?'s, fire away - 15 solid years mountain and road biking prior to life as a (mostly) full time trail runner. Have a great weekend and rest up for Monday's big test!!!
