Too Half or Not Too Half?

Passed the test. 5 Miles tonight and outside of the 20 mph winds and some rain, it was a nice run. Only significant pain while running was the affect 9 days off had on my knees. My ankle you ask? Taped it up, stretched it out and ran 4.75 miles on it without even noticing it was there. It responded, and did well. In the last 1/4 mile I did feel a little something - pain, but nothing to make me grimace, stop or break stride at all. Then it went away as fast it came.

I did have a nice piece of mind moment though which accompanied an aha moment. I remembered what I did to my ankle. Sprain it is, or was. I did my favorite 5 mile route. It goes over a dirt/desert road partially. We have had a very wet month of weather. So, as my right foot landed on a large truck tire rut in the mud on this unpaved road - yeah - deja vu. I remembered I did the same thing but with my left foot the last run, 9 days ago. Only that time was more of an awkward landing than tonight's. Odd remembrance. It has been bugging me for the last 8 days what I did? It took literally retracing my steps for it to sink in - literally - sink in the mud rut again for me to remember. Fun how the mind works.

Will see how the ankle responds tomorrow. It did not do well the day after playing basketball with 9-10 year olds this weekend. This weekend is my 6 Tunnels HM on trails near Hoover Dam. Should I do it? Maybe? I have the first Soccer games of the season for my kids and me the same day. The league was very nice in meeting my request for afternoon games. So, I have the time? I will rest tomorrow, and try a 8-9 miler on Wednesday. If that goes well - take a few days off and then why not? It will not be an easy course though. It will have some significant hills on the trails. We are forecasted to hit 70 that day. Will see?

Just such a great feelin' to be runnin' again!!!

Cheers!

I think your see-what-happens idea is a good one. You shoudl know after running soem 8-9 miles. And what a great day you'll have, a fun HM and then the rest of the day with your kids! Cheers!

ooh! Thanks for the reminder, I had meant to go back in and link your bloggy w/your mentioning. Fixed now. :)

No advice w/the injury and HM, I always err on the side of caution w/others, but never myself...so I no longer get to give advice. :p

I've had my share of ankle problems in the past. I think as long as you are icing, taping, all that good stuff, it sounds like you can get by on it. Enjoy the race if you do it. You get to run in some awesome places, btw! I envy that.

I twist and tweak myself here and there, especially on the trails and sometimes something will happen, a pain here or there and I can't even remember what I could have done. At the moment it happens, it's pretty non-eventful in comparison to other aches and pains. I hope you keep getting better, take it easy. By the way, I hope your son is feeling better!

Great news Slomo!

The random tweaks are really something else aren't they. Am I really hurt or is my body just complaining. Last spring my ankle blew up as you describe two-three weeks before my marathon. Did the same things as you and voila. Still have to power to heal.

Stay out of those ruts will ya!
