Yeah, okay - you can say it. Just grow up and be a man - man! I know? I am 43 and have not lived in the Seattle area for, what 10-11 years now. I still miss it though. I miss the green, the trees, the water, the mountains, and the really smart overly read, educated, smart and caffeinated people. This pix behind the never ending new title for the blog was taken from a top the Space Needle. Remember the structure my wife was trying to hold and lift in the palm of her hand photo?
Why do I feel this way again? Well, Seattle has not had the best of news lately with regards to Boeing, my once beloved Supersonics and the Seachickens (hawks) really stink right now. However, yesterday for my 14 mile run I realized again for the never ending again - Las Vegas is just one of the worst places I have ever run. There are some scenes of niceness. The red rocks are nice. However, they are just that - rocks! Vegas has too many rocks and not enough of all the above listed things I miss about Seattle. It does rain 10 months out of the year there. Yet, I miss it!
I miss running around Greenlake. Yes, I know it is flat and sometimes stinky in the Summer, but what a great place to run. While attending the University of Washington I used to run from the IMA down to Ravenna, once around Greenlake and back to the IMA. I miss running to Laurlehurst as well. I miss running in my hometown of Edmonds. Scenic little town North of Seattle with great view of Olympics. I miss running on Whidbey Island. I miss running along Lake Washington, the Burke-Gilman and Sammamish Slough trails (actually I use to ride my bike on them more than run). Trust me Vegas has nothing like this.
I read a RW issue recently that had Portland (another great NW city, who actually still has an NBA team) in the top 10 best places to run. Great, it deserves it. Yet, it deserves a spot just one below Seattle. That would be if Seattle was on the list?! How could my beloved hometown not be in the top 10. Yes, San Diego was there Meg Runs. It is well deserved as well. However, Seattle?! Seattle not on this list? Yes, a letter to the editor is in the making to RW.
Anyway, as I said previous. Feel great today after my 14 miler yesterday. Can't wait to add more mileage this week. Just hope our family still has a Bank this week?
Run tomorrow - 10k fast tempo. Tuesday, 4 mile hill run. Wednesday, rest. Thursday, long run. Friday, rest. Saturday, trail run (climb the desert Mt. run).
Cheers!

Certain places just stay in our hearts forever. Seattle is so gorgeous and it just has a special feel to it. Not sure why it's not a huge favorite in regards to running...maybe because of the rain?
Happy running this week!
I've never been to Seattle. Portland though. Ugh. Those Oregonians can have it. I'm not a big fan of PDX.
Now, Vancouver on the other hand. If Seattle in anything like Vancouver, I'm there!
