Follow Up Friday - From Just Last Night

First my ankle is fine. Feels a little tight, but no pain. However, the rest of my body? My other reason why I don't run at night. I can never get too sleep post run. I was up till 1:00 AM, and eventually fell asleep on the couch. We used to have a couch years ago, that seemed more comfortable than my own bed. We traded it on some fancy dandy one and for two years now I have not had a good nap. It was the perfect crash couch. It sucked you in and invited you in for nice long naps. Not couch fancy pants! My neck, shoulders and hips are biting today.

Clarify the ankle rolling and trucks. We actually have a rock, gravel and soil quarry 6 blocks from our house. It is really one big giant hole in the earth they keep making deeper. Something only Las Vegas would zone or make waivers for near residential areas, schools, churches and parks. Regardless, it is far enough away from our house you don't notice. Every now and then a loud bang. The kind of noise or loudness that could only mean something went horribly wrong down in the pit. It is really well hidden and no one thinks anything of it much. Unless you are me on several of my running routes.

The road is chewed and beat up near the entrance (mouth of the pit) due to all the trucks hauling once slumbering rocks. No sidewalks. Also, due to zoning requirements, trucks (we are talking big semi rigs, constrcution trucks) cannot pick up and haul between 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM and also from 2:00 - 4:00 PM. Reasons - one high school and three - count them Meg Runs - three elementary schools all within just one mile radius of the pit. So, anyway, the gravel pit and its trucks make up for this five hour loss in the evenings. I forgot how busy that 1/4 mile stretch can be near the mouth at night. Trucks, one right after the other. Of course nothing but little boulders on the side of the road with no path or sidewalks. Perfect sized rocks if you happen to kick will break toes inside running shoes. Of course, if you step on - roll ankles. So, when I say I was trying not too die from truck flattening and rolled my ankle three times or at least twice from trucks - that's the how, when and where of it all. Sorry Seattle I guess you don't remember where I live?

Anyway, Meg Runs, nice to hear from ya this AM comment wise. I was concerned with your "black box" issue. I hope you don't have anything lingering. I have no idea if my ruptured biceps was exaclty the result of the meds. My neededing the med predated the "black box". It was 3 months after taking the stuff and I was on it for 2 weeks due to Diverticulitis (sp).

I was trying to catch my oldest from falling and landing badly from the monkey bars in the park. I tried to grab him with one arm while holding a water bottle in my other hand. Silly me, just should have dropped it (the bottle not my son). My football, wrestling and Mr. Universe body building days were long behind me by then. He fell feet first right on the joint/bend in my arm. It was like someone stabbed my arm instantly as he hit it. I saved him from what could have been a bad fall. However my arm went dead - literally with pain that nearly made me lose my stomach. My entire biceps tendon (distil) completely rupture and seperate from the bone on the lower arm. YES, that was OUCH!!! However, my son is alive and healthy.

Anyway, I have a very long, almost lightening bolt shape scare on my right arm from the surgery. Great surgeon. He did an excellent job. Was able to repair it without grafting. He did the rehab with me personally only because he does not trust Physcial Therapist with this type of injury. It took about 8 months full recovery. Today, it is great. I think I am at 80-90% strength of what it was pre-injury and my arm can be held out straight without any bending. It does wear down sooner though. Endurance is not there anymore - so my Mr. Universe days are truly over. Only discomfort is when my 4 year old holds my hand and stetches my arm backwards too far as he winds around me. Or, if someone or thing jerks (pulls) on my arm really fast. Okay maybe more than you needed to know? Anyway, just concerned about ya Meg.

Have a great Halloween everyone. Yes, I am home today with the kids. Time for their Fall break! Yeah, I get all this time now with the my own cross country, soccer, football and basketball team. Life is good!

Cheers!

Thanks for the thoughts, all is fine today. Long story short, I stopped taking the meds the day I blogged about it and everything stopped. No issue, no joint/ligament pain...nada. Good news. EVERYONE I talked to said that I shouldn't take that med...for various reasons so all is well. Even rocked the run that made me cry last week so THANKS for the wishes. Hope you and your fam have a fun weekend! Take pix of the kids in costumes!
