Getting myself from this ...
to this ...
Okay? They are both exaggerated descriptions. Yet, the first one seems to resonate some. At least with the last 3-4 HM's I have done.
I am old. Well, at least the grey hairs speckled throughout my hair tell me so. I am carrying more pounds on my frame than I should be. I don't eat enough of the right foods most of the time. I don't do any speed work. I am bored and tired of most all my running routes. My lower back and right Achilles hate me.
THERE!
GOT it ALL out!
Maybe.
That was my paragraph of cleansing. Now for what lies ahead paragraph(s).
I vow to give my next HM all my training attention. It will be in Utah. End of July at the Timpanogos HM. First time for this race. It starts up in the Mountains (Wasatch) above American Fork, Utah. Why? you ask? Why am I doing this one?
That week I will be with family in Utah near American Fork/Provo. I will need the break from all things Family. I love both sides of my family - don't get me wrong. My wife's family is great. All very smart and fun. My family who live there - great as well. Love my Sisters. Yet, after 3 days of hanging, eating and family doings - RUN FORREST! RUN!
Here is the other one - a new streak. 50 HM's in 50 months - all before I turn (you guessed it) FIFTY. It started last month with the OC HM in May. Since I have hard time figuring out what I am doing 50 minutes from now, and injuries happen - will see. I will still be trying to get in a Full every so often as well. All eyes are on Long Beach, a Tucson redux, and Big Sur for those right now. I live for Race Roadtrips. So, if you have any ideas for some HM's, or Fulls in your area let me know. Always looking for my new favorite race.
Cheers!

I definitely felt like Homer in my last half!
If you want to come to New England I can tell you some good halves. 50 halves in 50 months sounds like a ton of racing! Long racing in my book. Good luck. I did my first marathon my 50th year. Now I'm trying to come up with a goal for my 60th. (slightly more than a year away.) I should have saved my first tri for it.
Slacker Half in Georgetown, CO and Run Crazy Horse in Hill City, SD. One paved, one dirt, both at least mostly downhill.
Oh, wow, that's an ambitious goal! but I know how much you love to run, and especially to run half marathons. :) And Utah...what a beautiful area in which to run!
You can do it! And it will be fun to spectate. :)
We have a lot of good halves in this area (Boulder, CO). I may do one in August called the Heart & Sole Half. I'm definitely doing the Detroit Half in October! Great goal!
