Weather Calls for Smoke

Geez that pix turned out small. I should have taken my own from my front yard. Anyway, Northern Nevada wildfires means smoke in the Vegas Valley today. Very thick stuff. Stuff you can feel in your throat and nose thick. We have some decent sized foothills just behind us - well normally. They have disappeared into a brown veil of air. Unless, it blows soon, I guess I am writing about running instead of doing it.

First thanks for all the recent comments. Always appreciate them. Thanks for being patient with my once in awhile (long while) postings of late. This week, by far, has been the least busy stretch of nothing  since - well - since Christmas?

We have been non stop crazy busy family this entire year thus far. Mom and Dad are always busy. Elementary Running Kiddo's the same. Yet, we have a teenager now in Junior High. A teen who never lacks for excitement. He literally wants to do everything! Soccer, Basketball, Hi-Q Team, Two different Orchestra's, Boy Scouts and National Honor Society. There is no stopping him. Oh, and now he wants to train for a Half Marathon this Summer. Gotta love it! Yet, we need to hire another Parent to keep up with just him. He is a great kid.

My running? Well, there has been more of it. Odd, given I have done at least two running streaks this year (with one being 37 days), it really seems like a drought of running lately. Yet, for the last 8 days, I have done two strong hill workouts, two medium length runs pushing the pace, and a 10 miler as I get into San Diego RR Half mode. Today, if wind blows the right way, 6-7 miler (medium length, in case you are wondering what I mean by that). One more Hill workout tomorrow (there is one biggish hill on the SD RR course), then this weekend - distance. Long distance. Decided to just wake-up early Saturday AM and go. Go as far as my legs, mind and body want to go. 12? 14? 16? Longer if I got it. Yet, since it has been forever with anything over 14 miles - doubting much of anything beyond 13.

Sometimes, though, I just get in these modes. I call it my "smooth" mode. After 10-12 miles, it just seems like I can go forever. Had that crossing the finish at the OC HM. Seriously, without training, I really felt I could've gone another 13.1. It was slow, not so-easy for some of it. However, my "finish line" was not 13.1 that day. I had more, much more in the tank. Love that feeling of Running Love. A transcendental feeling of "smooth".

Cheers!

I *love* the transcendental feeling of smooth. I do NOT love the smoke. Wow. I hope any runs you do while that's going on will be inside. It's one of the few sucky things about living out West, IMHO.

It sure will be nice for you to get a break from that smoky air to get down to San Diego with it's clear skies! Have fun in California!

Smooth is good!

That smoke looks awful! We had smoke here one summer from fires in Quebec. It wasn't thick but it was still awful.

Oh, I love those smooth feelings. It's so rare for me!

I hear you on the busy kids, too. It's like a whole other full time job.

That air does not look healthy. A couple of times we had just some smoke in the air and for me running was practically impossible.

Wow, transcendental even - you really got the Smooth back ;-) Stay clear of that smoke and keep rolling!
