Happy Thanksgiving!
Always a special Holiday, and sadly being so overlooked these days. My little runner girl was actually very sad seeing all the Christmas stuff up on Halloween Day (scary). My wise 8 year old daughter saw all this and turned to me saying, "don't people realize Thanksgiving is next?! I am Thankful for everything. I need Thanksgiving more than Halloween." :)
We have lots to be grateful for in our family. We have been blessed this past year with much. Wonderful opportunities offered, and yet no matter how much we love San Diego - we just couldn't.
The SW Mojave Desert seems to be the place to be. At least for our family right now. We just could not leave behind ALL that our kiddos have here. Great violin and piano instructor, teachers, Soccer League, friends and all that desert climate. I like dry weather. Not liking the months of June-Aug. anymore. Yet, no better place for runners than here, 9 months out of the year.
My running? Last Race was San Diego Rock and Roll way back the first of June. Busy summer of injuries, and family life stuff. All of which has made me a stronger person. At least I hope so. If not? it was all a complete waste of time and money.
Injury - my left foot. FINALLY, a decent diagnosis to it all. I have a Spur in my heel. It makes life miserable for my Achilles. Inserts have helped some. Yet, the biggest help has been tinkering with my form more, and shoes. Not changing them for another brand/type, but changing them out for newer ones sooner. Plus, I am old. No more can I run every day. SNAP! I hate that.
3-4 runs a week is all I can do now. It limits my mileage and training. I was thinking Ultra's this past Summer at some point. Yet, my foot said NO to that. My Achilles seems to have a self-destruct button without a rest day after each run. Or, going beyond 40 miles a week.
I have been becoming friends with my local gym again to fill in my need to sweat on the off days. Weights and swimming a much better friend to know. Much better friend than the pair of crutches leaning against the wall near my bed.
Guess what though? A race is near! Vegas Rock and Roll. No matter how much they raise the cost. Whether at night or not - I have to do this one each year. I will be doing the Half again. It is my getting back in shape race. I will let ya know how the night time thing works out on the Strip? I had to skip St. George and Long Beach for the Foot and Soccer Season. Fingers crossed my foot holds up. I really need this race to get back my Racing Smooth. Plus, nearly 6 months without an Expo? How can that be?
Upcoming events if the foot and schedule abides:
Vegas Rock and Roll Dec. 8th
AZ Rock and Roll Jan. 15th
Carlsbad Jan. 22nd
Surf City Feb.
St. Pattys HM March
Nashville April?
OC May

ThanksGIVING!
Cheers!

Oh, I hope that your foot holds up!
Granted, I don't have a long running history, but I've never been able to run multiple days in a row. It makes my body much happier to have the break, and sometimes it makes my brain a little crazy, which in this case is a good thing.
I'm soooo with your runner girl on the whole Christmas encroachment thing. I love Christmas, but I love Thanksgiving, too. Such a wonderful, low pressure time to just recognize how blessed we are and share our time with our loved ones. And eat!! :) My husband and son are outside right now putting up Christmas decorations, and while I know that he's doing it because he would rather do it during time off, it still makes me sad that it's up before Thanksgiving.
Goodness, this comments is as long as your post! :) Happy Thanksgiving to your and your family!!
Ahh, so glad to read a post of yours. So sorry I've been absent. NOt sure why your blog isn't on my blogroll but it surely is now. Your comment made my day. Thank you for your sincere words! Meant a lot to know that my blog is appreciated. My husband has been having a really hard time with his foot/heel. not sure what it is but it makes him so sad to not be able to do something he has fallen so deeply in love with...running...not me...he can still do me. Okay, nevermind. Anyway, you have a great schedule for the year! Go get it! Hope your foot agrees.
okay, you already are on my blog roll. I just suck at reading blogs these days. :( forgive me.
Happy Thanksgiving to the Slomo clan!!
