.... Gone Bad.
Kind of my blogging/running theme for the day. Frankly, at times it's what I feel about blogging in and of itself. :) Yet, for the most part I enjoy the time thinking out tidbits of Cheerful life all over my keyboard.
Okay the world is filled with nice ideas gone bad. Some smallish and more personal oriented like my friend above. Then there are colossal ones. Like most old American Motors Cars (Gremlin, Pacers, Javelin and Ahh... The Matador). They did have a good straight in-line 6 engine though. My favorite of ALL - time nice idea gone bad -
Okay, this one - was NEVER a good idea to begin with.
Today, during my 7 mile run I was mulling over any personal ones for me. It actually had me getting a little TOO deep with it all. Meaning? I had someone at the ripe young age of 19 (that was "me" being 19, him being in his early 60's) say, "don't do anything or NOT do anything that you will have regrets about in your mid 40's." Hmmm? What the H - E double hockey sticks does that mean? At least I thought at the time. I was also thinking the giver of this advice must have had some major midlife crisis issues in his 40's.
However, since the person offering up this advice was no stranger to me. He was someone I greatly admired. In fact, coincidentally, he just passed away a week ago. So, thinking of him and my 19 year old advice - had me on a theme of nice idea gone bad. Or, since I am in my mid 40's now - do I have ANY regrets? (Queue New Order song now) :)
Only ONE! A regret I glad-fully rectified. You see several times before actually meeting my wife at the age of 32, I had TWO very close calls in which WE should've met. One, in my early 20's during college. She was actually working in the cafeteria of the Dorm I was living in at BYU. I probably saw her everyday, her me as well. Don't remember, neither her. Part of the reason - I could last only a few short semesters at BYU. Good school, wholesome environment, most all in my family went there. It just was NOT for me though. I am not a fan of Utah and will just leave it at that.
Anyway, back home, in my very hometown near Seattle, Wa. I was finishing up at the University of Washington (WOOF! Go DAWGS!). My future wife was living 1.5 miles from my home! Well, at least for 6 months. It wouldn't be for another 6-7 years that we actually meet. All we have now, could have happened SO much sooner for the two of us and our children. My only regret.
Now, does this mean leaving BYU was a nice idea gone bad? Also, her moving from being only 1.5 miles away to Portland which was another 250 miles away? Whose to say? We have each other now, and it has been just that for over 12 cheerful years.
Okay, any of you? How about you? Any regrets? Any nice ideas gone bad?
7 mile run was fine today. Nice pace. I just might be doing a St. Pattys day run after all now. Soccer team I coach has a late afternoon first game this Saturday. I am having some pain in my left shin, right heel/Achilles though. Plus, lower back pain of all things! Never had back pain that lingers like this. Oh well? I am in my 40's. With only one regret. I think I can live with it all. :) Have a great day!
Cheers!

Only one regret .... not too shabby. And it all worked out in the end. Good stuff.
I have many regrets, but I've tried to learn and improve from them all. My biggest regret is one that can't be 'fixed', but I think it has taught me more than most anything else in my life.
I have lots of regrets, but they've brought about valuable experiences. I can't complain too much. :) (and if I did, I'd have only myself to blame!)
I think I have many regrets and wished I would have made a better choice here and there but they define who I am today and I like myself pretty well. My regrets have taught me more about life and how to live it better in the future.
Regrets are our teachers.
Learning from someone else's bad experience is much easier on a person than learning from your own. :) I didn't listen too well as a youth...working on it.
Hope the leg/achilles thing is gone by now!
I used to have some regrets. Then I was reminded that we don't drive our cars forward by looking in the rear view mirror.
