The Comeback Part 2 (or is it 3?)

Actually, it was just nice to get some runs in whatever I call it. Not sure if I would call it comeback? Yet, I have had a number of things pop up post San Diego Rock and Roll since the first of June. We are now the last day of July - so here is for injury free and healthy running for the next 22 years. Um 22 years? - you ask? I'll get to that at the end of this.

The week of running was a mix of realworld road running and dreadmill. Yes, treadmill. Folks it's Vegas and we have been near 110, at least over 105 the majority of this past week. Getting up real early - as in 4:00 AM real early to run in upper 80's - not for me this Summer. I did it all last Summer 4-5 times a week. I just can't afford the curl up in bed feeling by 2:00 PM in my realworld adventures anymore. Actually, by 11:00 AM I am ready for some serious Zzzzzz's on those days.

So, anyway, treadmill 5K tempo runs. One midweek 5 miler on the road (4:30 AM) and today near 7 miler. Today was the fun one!

As you might know my wife is a running fool these days. Today, our schedules collided. She took the wee early AM coolish time of the day. While I got stuck leaving the house at about 10:AM. Yep, it was already 97. Plus, humidity is actually in the air right now. Lesson learned today, one you would think I would need little reminding - we live in the desert. I left the house thinking 5 miler, but the ankle felt good so - hey - why not 2 more miles. Which is fine if the temps were 15 degrees lower for the hydration I had with me. I Ran out of water 4 miles in. Went another mile without, than found a sprinkler head malfunctioning and fountaining (yeah, I am sure that is a word?) water all over. Thank heaven for cheap plastic irrigation parts. Filled up the water bottle and soaked my head. Fantastic relief!

About 18 miles for the week. Where I wanted to keep things coming back on my ankle. Second time around for the same injury now. Yes, I realize it could be chronic thing at my age. I am watching my stride, mechanics and stretching more right now. Plus, whether I run or not - I am making AM stretching a daily thing. Yeah, you might call it Yoga, but since I doubt what I am doing looks anything like it - and I am guy - we will just call it AM stretches :).

My wife you ask? She is doing great! In fact, I think she is further along than her couch to 5K program is at right now. I don't want to tell her that - well - I guess I just did.  She reads most of my postings. Anyway, she needs to keep it injury and stress free. So, I will just say she is strong right now. She is also thinking healthy dieting a lot lately.

Today, she had a nice $150.00 organic/healthy food buying spree at Whole Foods. Amazing how $150.00 from Whole Foods can fit neatly into only two bags. Comparison to the 10 bags min. $150.00 would be from Von's or Albertsons here in Vegas. Oh well, Whole Foods certainly does smell great compared to the others. Kind of aroma that makes you want to live there.

Babbled enough. Have a great weekend!

Cheers!

PS - Oh, the 22 years thing? Another post another time.

Yea for injury-free running! I hope it continues. Congratulations to your wife, too. I found myself ahead of my c25k program, too...which was ok as long as it kept me running.

Oh, and thanks for the comment today...which I promptly (and accidentally) deleted by hitting the wrong button on my phone. Sorry!

I don't envy you your Vegas heat, and I feel your pain with the humidity. Our air has been as thick and wet as the swimming pool. Ugh!

I know! Just where does the money go at Whole Foods? Too funny that you come home with only two bags and some pricey cheese and veggies!
Congrats to your wife! My good friend is getting into running and it isn't easy...and she doesn't have the heat that you do. Keep being the encouragement that you are!

Gosh I know about the heat! Good for you getting on the dreadmill, I just can't do it, so it's 5:30 am for me... Glad the ankle is still doing good!

I totally heart Whole Foods (aka: Whole Paycheck) but only shop there about once a month cuz it's just too pricy. Kudos to your wife for getting ahead of the program and knocking those runs out! And Slomo, there's nothing wrong with a treadmill in a nice AC controlled environment :). Remember, you live in the desert! :)

We prefer Vitamin Cottage/Natural Grocers - great natural foods, and realistic on their prices instead of gouging like Whole Foods. Good to hear you are back at it but be careful in the inferno - dehydration is a drag!

Hi Slomo! I know what you mean, Whole Foods is expensive! I guess it is worth it to know that you are getting good stuff.

I'm struggling with that heat too. Don't tell anyone, but I'm ready for snow (can't believe I just said that)

I'm so thrilled for your wife! My sister is going to run her first 5K in October; it's so much fun to watch their progress eh?
