Okay, lets get the running part out of the way first. None! Yep, nadda as in zip. My pain is still there. My right leg in general has been a mess since the San Diego Rock and Roll. I will NEVER do this race again! IT Band, Calf and Hamstring issues.
Remember the pop I felt? Yeah, it was a tendon. Nothing ruptured - yet. However, deep strain. I have essentially taken two weeks off with one 5 miler (which probably re-injured it) in between. I need to take at least one-two weeks more off. Ice and advil as well, but I am not a big fan of the later. I tried to run Monday AM and it wasn't happening as I was trying to stretch. I was able to get in later that day for a quickie exam and treatment plan. Yeah, it sucks - however - nothing compared to what my wife is now dealing with. Perspective of what sucks is relative.
My wife had some odd itching late last week. The itch was on the left side of her scalp. Saturday she woke feeling pain and swelling in her Lymph node area on that side of her neck. She went through the day doing all the stuff we needed to do that day. Then Saturday evening came around and she felt things getting worse or more intense. The long and short of one Urgent Car visit, actual ER Hospital visit and now her own Doc visit Monday - she was finally diagnosed with Shingles. Yeah, I know three different Docs, and three different diagnosis. Yet, the last seems to be it from her own Doc office.
She was able to get into her Doc Monday near the same time as mine. Funny, she went to one side of the office and I went to the other side for mine. She was actually seen by a PA who seems to have hit the correct diagnosis of Shingles. She is down till next Monday. Lots of pain and discomfort. Yet, actually staying home and resting is almost equally painful for her.
It was brought on by stress most likely - work, all our family stuff and 5K training not a good mix right now. Anyone who has ever had Chicken Pox has the potential to have Shingles at anytime. Stress or weaken immune system brings it out of dormancy. Her reaction is the classic sign of too much stress. She told her PA - "I can't have this, I have no time for this right now!" That was the icing of her diagnosis.
So, we have had Tonsil boy, broken hip kitten and now wife with Shingles. Plus, my little right leg pain. Whats next?
Oh, kitty update (thanks for asking HT). Fine. Surgery was Saturday AM and went well. She is now confined to her extra large dog kennel for 17 more days at least. No, it is not a happy sound hearing her cry through the house wanting to get out. Yet, she has no choice. The Doc says after a few months she should be bouncing around fairly normal. She will lose some range of motion, but she should run, walk and jump without pain or limp. We are taking turns as a family helping her -yet the bulk of the care is all me. The kitten is a cutie and has a pretty unique personality. Plus, the kitten is now an extension of our daughter. So, happy we were able to get her fixed up and the surgeon was able to come in from SoCal to do this.
Anyway, I am off again today. Taking care of life in our home. Kids are all on Track Break. I am taking them all to Toy Story 3 soon. Tonsil boy is nearly fully recovered now as well. Just stay away from our house right now - you might be next!
Cheers!
PS - my wife picked up some Brooks Ariel. They seem to be the shoe for her.

BUMMER - sending good vibes out to the Slomo household in general. Hang in there SuperDad - you are having your hands full without the running!
Sorry to hear about the recent misfortunes of you and your family. Better to get all that crap out of the way now so that you can enjoy the rest of the summer. Get well soon!
wowsers, when it rains it pours huh? hope things start turning around soon in the slomohusky house.
Oh my gosh, this is NOT your week. I am so terribly sorry for all your ailments...I hear shingles is extremely painful so I hope for the best for her. And tonsil boy. And of course all your running woes (I can relate!!). I sit and ask myself many times, "How much more can I endure" and the big man above tends to throw more and more at me, but I will not give in and try to remain hopeful. That's what we have - hope!! Get well soon, Slomo!!
Ugh. I ma behind due to my own drama, but darn it all, if you are not having a host of your own! I am so sorry to hear about kitty (but very glad the surgery has gone well and she is recuperating) I am also sorry to hear about your injury (definitely give it time to heal, in oue *cough* advanced age we need to give our bodies more time to heal) and then your wife gets Shingles? Sheesh! Wishing her a speedy recovery!
Take care
