Who Will Stop the Wind?

Yes, I know the CCR song is Who Will Stop the Rain. Yet, if Jon Fogerty gave up the beautiful back wooded hills of Oregon. Spent the last 2-3 months in the greater Las Vegas Valley and Mohave desert it sits in - my title would work great.

Yesterday, another night of 45-50 mph gusts here. It forced me indoors to the treadmill. I was late getting there before they closed, 3.5 miles was all I had time for. Just yuck. Not the treadmill action. That was actually a pretty good quality 3.5 miles at a good pace. I even got a compliment from the older gent who works the cardio area. He mentioned he was a former College Track coach (retired). He, said for a bigger runner" (nicely, he said husky runner) you got good form. Nice workout." I guess I will take that as a compliment.

Anyway, the windiest stretch of months ever here. It does get windy here. Especially in the really hot days of July or August. Like a furnace of wind. Yet, all this Spring - three-four days a week! It has been really bad trying to work in Soccer practices. Luckily, we have only had two games that were badly windy. It is the dust that is the main issue. You just really do not want to be outside breathing in desert dust into your lungs. So, trying to keep up a regular running schedule has been even worse.

Have not made the final decision on the SF Marathon July 25th. Still trying to resolve family vacation time and place first. I do have San Diego Rock and Roll for my next HM. Yep, I thinking I should have done the Full for that one. Yet, training wise, not there quite yet. I need another month or two. Still, I am looking forward to SD. One, we LOVE SD. Too much there for our family to do. I would like to call it home some day. I am also ready for another Rock and Roll event. After a number of these events now - They are the best organized. Well, actually, I think Disneyland Half a little more so. Yet, the Rock and Roll events are really nicely done.

Busy next few Soccer weekends. My girls team did it! They made the tournament! They have done so much better this season than the previous. Very proud of them. It has been a blast coaching them again. My oldest, will be in tourney play again as well. Fun. Just can't get over how fast this season went by.

Hope everyone is having a fantastic week thus far. All went well over the past weekend. Keep running! Great job Tara on your first Marathon as well. Way to go BS, oh, I mean Killer.

The guy must have had ESP - knowing you were a "Husky" runner - wink, wink! Wind is horrible - feel for ya on that one, especially with the dusty cloud that comes along for the ride. Cracked up on the breakfast line up too! Have an awesome week Slomo!

Jill - I did see your previous comment. Would love to meet up with ya. I am just not sure we can take the needed time off for it right now. Working on it. It is the most ideal time for me to attempt my first Full in 14 years. Great city to do it in as well.

HT - Thanks as always for your witty comments and your great blog!

Those poor kiddos out there playing soccer in the wind and dust! I'd never thought about that. They must get used to it though, which certainly doesn't make it any better!
We're off to SF 1/2 marathon too and I will definitely be cheering for you at the San Diego half. I can't believe it's almost summer already! Have a nice week!

Yeah. I'mnot quite sure what's up with this weather. I used to spend a lot of time in the Owens Valley during the summer and fall months, and I remember the wind in the afternoons from thermal heating. But I don't remember them in the early spring like this year. I was reading about 70 mph winds near Bishop earlier this week. Wow!

Woo hoo, Slomo has got good form:) I would be so flattered if someone ever told me I had nice form!! The cool thing is that this guy was a former track coach!! It doesn't get any better than that:) Cheers!

Meg - Great! Hope I am able to meet you and Killer at either or both events.

Glenn - It has been the worst with regards to wind since we have lived here.

Julie - Well at least I got a form! Not much else though.

That wind is crazy! We don't get much of that around here, we traded it for daily thunder storms! Good luck deciding about the SF race. Have a great weekend!
