Soccer season is slowly coming to a gradual end. The first time all four kids have played in one season and the first time I have coached two teams in one season. Two of the four are done now. In addition, one of my two coaching duties is as well. My oldest and my daughters team will continue into Tourney play. This will be my first coaching for any Soccer tournament. I am excited for my daughter and her teammates. It will be a fun week practicing and playing next weekend. They have played so well all season and we have had a blast. I don't know 8, First Grade girls who deserve their Tourney invite more?
So, anyway, we have come together right now over 26.2 miles family commits. Yes, I have officially registered for the San Francisco Marathon. My first in 14 years. Should be a great time in one of my favorite cities. Well, frankly, I feel like this will be a first time again. This time I am 25 pounds heavier, and much slower. I have no idea what to expect. Yet, with 5 Half Marathons under my belt now, and one more SD Rock and Roll before the San Fran race - I feel at least experienced enough. Plus, a nice banking of miles built up in the Bank of Slomo to draw upon. Yes, I know though - getting to mile 20 and then finishing up with a 10K ... ? Well, you know? This is where the race really begins so to speak for most.
I am dedicating this first 26.2 in 14 to my daughter. I do it for her. It is her Birthday the day before the race. Plus, well, she is my main running inspiration these days. She is my little runner girl.
Next change, has to do with the bad lottery luck for St. George. Yeah, well, actually I am kinda glad it turned out the way it did. I have registered for the Long Beach Marathon in Oct. now instead. I cannot tell you how much I enjoy running in California. Especially, Southern Cal area. It is my place, and they are my people. At least my place to race.
So, for the rest of the year (you can look to right margin for the calendar as well):
San Diego Rock and Roll HM
San Fran. Full
Disneyland HM
Long Beach Full
I think this will be it for the rest of the year as well. I still have the Santa Fun 5K run listed. Yet, I have not heard of any confirmation they are doing it this year. Las Vegas Rock and Roll in Dec.? If I do it again, just the Half again. However, the 145.00 registration cost has me in boycott mode for this. Running the Strip is not that exciting, but it is a hometown race.
Well, mileage, mileage, mileage and more mileage for the next few months. Of course with Vegas heat soon to be with me - welcome to the furnace! SF in July will feel like Christmas in Alaska after training in the triple digits again. Hope everyone had a great weekend!
Cheers!

I suffered mightly last year but it was a fun race. Congrats on biting the bullet. The full course is totally worth it. You won't regret it!
Email me, man. We will plan a meet up! So excited! Ok, I will stop with the exclamation points. :)
Nice race schedule there Slomo! I'll be on the lookout for you in San Diego. I *should* also be in San Francisco - I need to complete my California Dreaming series. And I *should* also do Long Beach, but that's out there at my event horizon right now.
So what do you figure SF is going to be like in July? 60 degrees?
Take care!
Ha ha ha! Just got your comment. No pictures of water would only make we need to pee more often. I'm not a big water fan, so I'm perfectly happy with the "not boat." My son actually has a racing scull at Newport Aquatic Center - but I'm deathly afraid of getting into it!
