First run in a week last night. I decided to flip yesterday and today's runs. Easy 5 last night, tonight I will do 7-8 miles at my HM race pace for five miles of it. Anyway, last night was a nice run. Love that fresh leg feeling. I was actually holding myself back on pace and mileage. Decided on a nice easy pace/mileage as a barometer run. After a week of rest and recovery from my "ammonia smelly sweat" run and the Cold - felt it important to see where things are. I also had the dizzy feeling after that run as well. All seemed good last night though. Rest and better eating was the cure.
I tried something new with the ankles as well. I did a thorough stretch on them, than I lathered them in Gold Bond Foot Cream. It is essentially a menthol/muscle cream. I think it helped my aging arthritic joints a lot. Kept everything lose and warm throughout the run. It was low to mid 40's when I left the house.
I have had this ankle issue for a number of years now. I also have arthritis in my neck from an old wrestling days injury. Anyway, some runs are very painful within the first 1.5 - 2 miles. Then the ankles (both) slowly loosen up and the pain magically goes away. However, if the temps get in the mid 40's and this pain happens - my ankles just never get loose. So, the extra stretching pre run yoga, plus the Gold Bond seemed to do the trick.
The Titanium necklace? Well, the verdict is still out on that one. I went to the product website, and yes Meg Runs, Kara Goucher does wear one. She got the idea or tip from Paula Radcliff. According to them, and a runner my wife works with - it helps a lot. Helps with faster recovery, more energy and less injuries. I love my wife.
Speaking of which we both were on the long distance Husband/Wife connection (vibe) in the Force. She called me just as I was looking at my running calender with the Phoenix Rock and Roll HM in mind this AM. She was thinking the same thing and was calling to workout that weekends schedule.
Looks like a 4 day weekend for our kids. MLK Day weekend is typically 4 days for our schools. So, we will have plenty of time in the Valley of the Sun for the run. Plus, we will get over to the Seattle Mariners and Anaheim Angels spring sites to see what is happening. Usually Pitchers and Catchers don't report till mid Feb.. Yet, Rookies and Farm Players are there for Winter Instructional League play in Jan.
Also, here is the other reason to celebrate MLK Day in Arizona. Former Gov. John Meacham! Kinda flipping the bird on him. Remember he was adamant on Arizona NOT celebrating MLK Day or making it an official Holiday in Arizona. I try not to be political in this blog. However, stupid is as stupid does, and I am glad those with more brain cells, sensibilities in Arizona came along to change that one. We like Sedona and Flagstaff a lot as well. Be nice to spend time there on the trip. Arizona surprises me with every trip we make there. It can be a very scenic place to be.
Well, I hope everyone is looking forward to a fantastic running year ahead! One with NO injuries, good health and Happy Miles!

Hey - Glad to see you got in a run and felt good - awesome! Little behind on bloggety things as we have family staying with us for Christmas. Will get some pics up from Christmas Day run. Choir/music was great at Christmas Eve service for us - made me think of Slomo exercising the old vocal chords!
Sounds like you have had a couple of really great runs!
I'm interested to read more on the titanium necklace. I have heard that Kara Goucher wears one. Let me know how it works with your ankle. My hubbie has some knee problems and they always seem to worsen in the cold.
Keep at it! Tara
Glad you are feeling better! Here's to 2010!
Thanks for the cheer and great vibes. I am very curious about that necklace and looked them up, they are NOT cheap and the website is very interesting. Hmmm...let me know how it goes!
Sounds like you're making some fun plans with family and running!
I like the new picture! I hope you were running up and not down. I don't hink going down that would be very fun at all....
I'm desperately trying to catch up here. If I ddn't do so already - hope your family had a great Christmas! And I'm going to try to post before Friday, but if not, have a happy and safe New Year!
