Sonicsgate

Not a Running post. If you care little about basketball, the NBA, Seattle or the former Seattle SuperSonics - sorry.

Airing Free online Oct.12th, at Sonicsgate.org is a Documentary Film on just how the Seattle SuperSonics were moved to Oklahoma City to become the Thunder. Seattle had the Sonics for 41 years. Those of us who followed them going back to the late 1960's listening to Bob Blackburn radio broadcasts - are still in disbelief they are gone. Former NBA Champs. Made it to the NBA Finals three times along with many other playoff appearances. Rich history of players and coaches. The first Pro team in Seattle and a team woven into the hearts of the Community. Yet, gone. If you go to Sonicsgate.org you can view a trailer, sneak peak, into the Doc Film. Based on the trailer, it looks like a well made film.

Ironically, I first heard about the news they would be officially leaving Seattle while on vacation in San Diego. The old San Diego Rockets 1967-71, came into the NBA the same year as the Seattle SuperSonics. Both teams with the same colors - Green and Gold. Rockets have been in Houston since 1971.

Yes, I am a sports geek as well. So, if it sounds like I am taking the loss of my beloved Sonics too .... well, you fill in the blank. I apologize to my regular Running friends/bloggers and all others. Yet, if you grew up in Brooklyn and still miss the Dodgers - you know how I feel.

Have a great weekend of running! Have a great Long Beach Marathon - Fat Guy Running. Have fun out there.

Cheers!

I accept your apology but can't you at least add something about soccer, your kids, your wife or???? I like sports if it has something to do with the Chargers or Padres....oh well, I guess you get tired of running skirt talk right?

Meg Runs -
Thought I at least had your interest with the San Diego portion of the story. I was hanging out in our hotel after a long, but fun family day at Seaworld when I heard the news on the local SD news.

I can tell you outside the Seahawks, we root for the Chargers. In fact, today, our four year old was wearing his LT 21 Charger Jersey. I have one myself - adult size though. I have always liked the Chargers Helmets and Uniforms growing up. I cheer on the Dolphins, Rams, Eagles and Jets for the same reasons. I have even been to a Chargers game in Qualcomm. Sorry not a Padres fan, but they share the same Spring training facility as my Mariners.
