Ran this AM. Based on my attempt yesterday and now today - I really should be following my initial rest and recovery plan for the week. Yesterday, the legs felt fine, just tired of running in the heat. Today, well the heat was a few degrees less. The legs? Not there. Weird, felt like I had not run in 12 months. They were both sore and stiff after a mile or so. Felt it in lower calves, ankles and also my hamstrings. I am also the biggest bump of a grump I have been in - well - ever. Not the typical happy Mr. Lucky.
I just put in over 90 miles in one month, and I have not recovered like I want after the 14 miler. Doing it in heat that even the very fit would not run in. NO running for the rest of the week. Pick it up again Monday. Might try to get in some laps at the local pool as well.
I used to bike three times a week or more working in Seattle. It was a 20 mile round trip, all of it on the Sammamish Slough/Burke Gilman Trail. I miss Seattle sometimes, as you can tell. Having a great network of urban trails is one the many things I miss. Vegas is not a biker friendly locale. It also is not blessed with the best outlets to buy a bike. I will spend this down time hunting for a new rig in between my legs and under my butt. Or, at least finding a good bike shop.
So, no running till Monday - hope I can do it. There is a reality I must face - I am addicted to running. I need ten steps to recovery. I will start with 10 or more laps in the pool and 10 or more miles on a new bike.
