My grand plans of 45 miles this week to commemorate turning 45 - not happening.
Sunday, AM woke up to my Achilles/
Ankle pain. It is a fragile area for me. Repeated injuries to this same area from High School on has left me with degenerative tissue issues. However, this time around - the pain - is due to smacking the back of my foot/Achilles against the leg of the office chair in my room. I did it the day before. Pretty sharp impact, and right away I knew - I am going to feel that one for a few days.

Today, better, but not quite runner friendly. Few more days. So, instead of 45 miles for me-self - REST. Which does the body good as well. I have been putting in some higher mileage weeks of late. So ..... rest.
Please, no worries. As if it makes any difference to you one way or the other. The Achilles has been thoroughly checked. It is NOT a form issue. Is NOT a shoe issue. IT is an aging body issue and too much scare tissue from past injuries long ago.
A procedure can be done. Yet, I have elected not to do it.
The time off for it is something I cannot do right now. The actual relief to my aged Achilles might be minimal. Plus, as much I LOVE running - I am REALISTIC as well. In other words - I can easily make this blog ALL about Road Bike adventures very easily and happily. Which still puts some pressure on the Achilles, but not as much or damaging.
I hope that will not be happening anytime soon though. I used to ride a lot though. Enjoyed it and really have no clear reason why I stopped. Did have a crash or two. One that could have been fatal if it wasn't for 3-4 inches. Yet, that did not stop me. I kept riding several years after. It was also my main mode of transportation for work for about two years. Nice little 20 mile round trip ride I did 3-4 times a week. I really miss that. Yet, I enjoy running more. I enjoy the races and the overall mental/physical gains running provides that I can't quite duplicate on the bike.
Plus, I am bike-less still. A year ago if you remember at this same Tour de France time I was shopping. Nearly bought a throw back style Specialized Steel frame Allez. I really like the feel of steel. Yes, other metals and materials are swifter and lighter - yet steel - Reynolds steel is so nice on the body after a longish ride. Not many make them anymore. Yet Specialized has this one and still makes it. So? .... you never know? It is my birthday soon? My issue was the stock gearing on it. I would probably upgrade it. Or, I just might give in totally for the need for speed and go lighter.
So, no running for at least a day or so. The running kiddo's though? Still at it. Older Runner Dudes - running 10 miles a week. Runner Girl - 5-6 miles a week. Little Runner Dude - 2 miles. They are having fun keeping track of their mileage, times and pace. Fun!
Cheers!

Oh,man, you hate to hurt yourself in some random way. I mean, getting hurt stinks no matter what, but it's really annoying to me when it's not even something sports-related (although it's probably better that way). I'm currently sporting a large bruise on my thigh from our mud volleyball tournament...from walking into a crank up in the viewing area! :-/
My running mileage has definitely decreased thanks to weather being more hospitable to cycling. I like to run, but I love my bikes.
Hey Slomo! I have been biking for about 9 years now, but running is my main love. I have however, really come to love my bike over the last year or two. Sigh......it is much easier on the ole bod. Scar tissue sucks (I KNOW!), but adding a little bit of cross training makes those runs just that much better when you get to do them! I sure hope that ankle gets better for you..hang in there, you can have some great adventures on the road/mountain bike too!
The bike rocks. Except when I crash it...
It's good that you like it a lot! Much friendlier on the joints and achilles.
Next time you injure yourself you'll have to make up a better story :)) Like saving a girl from a train or something? Kidding- Get better soon!
Ugh. Getting old sucks....
