Yes, In Orange. My new favorite color these days. Here a few quick bits of yesterdays race.
1. Marriott Hotels - with all it's resources of communications to notify travelers. Could have told us before staying Cal/Edison Power was going to shut the Hotels power off yesterday! It made for a fun experience getting to the start, and for my wife with all the kiddo's after getting me to the start.
2. Sometimes Course changes are a good thing.
3. I really LIKE running hills during a race. REALLY!
4. First really bad, awful, needing to be decontaminated from just touching the door - Porta Potty experience. RBR - it was bad very bad. The seat was splattered with layers of fluid of varying colors, and varying chunks. Trying to find another took 4 minutes off my finish time.
5. Really, yes REALLY! Tired of listening to out loud conversations treating the event as running therapy to personal, family, work and whatever problems the loud talkers are going through. Some don't seem to realize this is PUBLIC event!
6. I did like this one though. Each event has one really fun Running Couple moment. I was pacing behind a couple wearing some ultra race T's - I think it was a 50 milers. They were running the Full, looked very Ultra fit. Both had ipod plugs in their ears. Anyway, they came to the first water and porta potty stop - maybe 2 miles in.
The Dude had to go! As he started off for the bank of porta pots - his wife irritated and yelled - "ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! NOW!!!!" "DO IT IN YOUR SHORTS AND KEEP RUNNING!" (ooohhs came out and laughter all around) Wow, potty break smack down!
7. I was going to make this trip solo. Yet, my wife, in 3 hours while I coached Soccer, supported my Son in his game. While she had another Son's baseball game to attend, also managed to find Vet/Boarding for our Husky Pup, packed us all and had us ready to go. Just enough time make it to the Expo. She really wanted to get away!
8. Orange County is my wife's hometown so to speak. She grew up not far from both Huntington and Newport Beach, California. Just minutes from both. The OC Marathon has become our hometown race! Laid back, well enough organized and we love the fact it ends at the Fairgrounds. We will be back this summer to do the OC Fair 5K's as a family.
9. Last but not least - nothing better than soaking your tired running legs in the cool Pacific Ocean post race! The best!
Cheers!
Welcome back Julie!

How great that your family could come along, even with the hotel issues. I wish mine had come with me.
My brother and I were the fun running "couple" at our race. :)
Pacific Ocean post race ice bath sounds like heaven! Sorry about the rush at the start with the hotel mess-up, but sounds like you loved the race and have a good time overall. So glad the wife got to got, too!
