I love these dogs. Love everything about the Breed. They can be very playful and athletic. They have minds of their own. They are very smart. They are beautiful.
A few days ago we noticed how attached our little Husky, Nikita, is getting to me. I have a tote bag I put my scriptures in for carrying them to Church on Sunday. This past Sunday night Nikita found my tote. It was laying next to our fireplace about 15 feet or more from where I was sitting. Being the smart little Husky she is, she picked up the bag by its handles - and no! - did not rip it apart as we were expecting her to do. Instead, she carried it with the handles in her mouth right to me and dropped in my lap.
Last night the same thing happened. Not with the tote/scripture bag. With my running shoes! I always tie the laces together of both shoes after each run. I do this to separate them from the retired running shoes I use for everyday wear. Anyway, I was expecting her to - yes - be like a puppy and rip them apart. NOPE! She picked up the shoes by the laces, carried them to me, putting them in my lap.
HINT?
Taken.
I ran last night. Regardless of the pain I still have behind my right knee - I ran. Yet, this time, I got the hint loud and clear from Nikita. SHE wanted to go this time. Nikita ran her first 5K last night two seeks shy of being 5 months.
I love watching these dogs run.
Last night though was more of a trot for her. She did it perfectly. Right by my side the entire way, and was distracted only once by a black cat. I was a little concerned with the distance for her being so young. The longest runs previous with her have been only a mile. She walks with me sometimes 3-4 miles at time. Yet, last night, she ran (trotted) in perfect stride with me right by my side. Once home, she acted like she wanted to go further! She was not tired at all. Drank some water, and she wanted more. I was amazed.
I was also amazed with my leg problems. Nothing. No pain while running. I have mentioned this before. I feel the pain walking, not running. This morning, some stiffness, slight dull pain. Overall it feels better than it did yesterday. I doubt I do the Labor of Love HM in April though. Yet, this does have me doing cartwheels (thanks Meg) with the feeling I have conquered yet one more injury. My wife did remind me though (not in a direct way) in her own way - I seem to get these pop up injuries every Soccer season. I am getting old, I know. Thanks babe!
Anyway, what a blast to have a canine running companion now. Hopefully my other Husky friends can do more of this against the Pac 10 (Oops) Pac 12 and Trojans (sorry Glenn) this Fall.

Cheers!

Yea for running without pain! :)
That's so cute of your dog. Mine flips out whenever I put on my running shoes because he LOVES to run with me, but he's never brought them to me. He's definitely built for distance (considerably older and had more running experience than your pup) and has run up to 10 miles with me...pretty much looking back at me most of the way like, "Is that all you've got, mom? Huh? Huh?"
So happy to have found your new blog... not so new any more I guess. Great story about a beautiful dog! My little one Frida, will take my cell phone and stash it under a pillow if she feels I am not paying her enough attention. Dogs are great!
Perfect running dog, such LONG legs. Daisy is just a tad too short!
Thanks for the words about the traveling and taking time off. I KNOW it's going to be okay but the unknown is just hard to accept. We're just trusting right now. He is growing up and that's what he needs to do. Thanks again. It helps to hear what other people have done.
What a smart Husky, D may not be tall but she is smart as well...well, most of the time.
Thanks again!
That is so awesome with the pup - bet it got you a little choked up, dad!!
Dogs smell weakness.. no weakness in those knees apparently! I wish my kids behaved as well as your pup!
That dog is just beautiful!
Nikita and you must be perfect for each other! :)
Great that you were able to get out and run together...I bet she could have gone another 10 times (with a sled harnessed to her)!
I can't get used to that pac 12 thing yet...
Beautiful story about your dog. How cool.
I wouldn't worry too much about the Trojans. After all that has gone on, I think we are in for a decade of mediocrity. The current report is the Trojan offensive line is just that this year. Pretty offensive....
How cool your dog senses what is important to you and making you accountable to them :). Smart doggie!!
I'm happy you have pain-free running - that's gotta be such a happy time for you. Wonder what's up with the walking though - weird. I just read this article that said if you have any pain at all in any part of your leg, you are not healthy and your diet is a big part of this. I am believing that lately for me.
