Wow! A Post on Running!

Love this picture. The smiles, the fun, the grass, feeling like a Kiddo. It's what running is ALL about to me.

I love running on grass. I love team sports that involve running and grass. Okay, hardwood floors and running pretty good as well. Yet, running on grass - my favorite surface.

I have been taking a break of late. Well, at least from any running goals, races and distances longer than 7-8 miles. I have also been breaking from my traditional routes which have too much asphalt, flat and - well - boring. They are all ones I can leave the front door and knock down with lots of convenience.

Hills, hills, hills on roads/sidewalks broken up with some grass have been my courses of late. For the last month I have been going on driving adventures to scout and run new paths, roads and grass. I have found a few, which are actually not too far. When I start adding double figure mileage again; I can easily add these new routes onto old ones for 12-15 mile runs, just leaving the front door.

The fun part about these new ones (besides some grass in the park to run on) spectacular views and HILLS. Yes, hills. However, much I always complain about a hilly course during a race. I will equally get excited and enjoy a good hill or more to train on. Yeah, I know odd. Next posting I promise Pix of the views I get. Yesterday, would have been perfect to take a few. Red Rocks and nearby Mountains with snow from the night before. I will see how they look today and take a few.

No race goals for now. I don't even have one till the OC Marathon first of May. Which will most likely be the HM. Then the following month for June I have two: San Diego Rock and Roll and Seattle Rock and Roll. Most likely the Full on the first one, Half on the later. Before or after these three, I have decided to keep things up in the air some on purpose. Disneyland again will be a must for our family Labor Day weekend. Outside of that, I am taking it easy. Maybe some last minute ones here or there if we have the time.

One thing is clear though. I LOVE RUNNING! Nothing feeds my soul more. Nothing uplifts and keeps me even keel at the same time. Even though my schedule has been erratic some - I may run three days in a row, only to take two days off  - the love of lacing them up and kicking some hills, grass or asphalt can't be beat.

Yep, this is two posting days in row as well. Amazing for me of late. I have another tomorrow coming at least. Possibly another after that as well. I have been doing some genealogy. I have come across new info that changes things in our family tree. It has also given me info I think posting for family legacy reasons on the blog might be a good thing.

Have a GREAT day! Be Cheerful!

Cheers!

I love running on natural surfaces as well. Sometimes grass is too squishy and yesterday I ran over pinecones and almost killed myself with an ankle twist, but that's a story for for another day. Running on the beach is my favorite way to run, barefoot, in the water!
I hope I can do that soon once again!

Looking forward to Red Rocks photos. I ran a long run there a few years ago - hilly, windy and wonderful!

Ah yes...running for running's sake and not training for anything can feel wonderful. The red rocks area sounds beautiful :)

The variety of surfaces is nice too, though I don't get much chance to do trails since I am freaked out by animals and getting hurt by sticks and tripping..Get all you can out of it. Enjoy those new routes!

About the foot: thanks for asking. :) I don't know what I did to it. I don't have insurance, so don't go in for self-inflicted running injuries. I think I might have tweaked the peroneal tendons behind the ankle - perhaps microtears or something. There was swelling but no bruising. I can walk pretty well now...

Also, thanks for the comment about the 30 day challenge topic. I appreciate it!
