The Sick of it All!

Despite the Flu shot. Despite all the vitamins I take each day. It found me.

I have endured all that my kiddo's can throw at me. I have fought off anything my wonderful, hard working wife could bring home from the Hospitals. My immune system finally cried UNCLE! The sick of it ALL! Fever, coughing up all shades of green and yellow. Aches and pains as well. Sounds and feels like the Flu to me! Flu Shot refund please?

I want to thank ALL of you for the concern over my son. He is much better. In fact, as I tap away on the keys - he is playing his first Basketball game ever. I can't be there :(. My wife will not let me go out and play. However, she is texting me play by play accounts.

My wife also will not let me run today. The day before my sickness afflicted, I registered for a local Calico Racing Half Marathon for this morning. I had high hopes of still doing it as of last night. Drove out to the Hacienda Hotel near Hoover Dam to get my bib and T. Got there just before they folded up the tables. Yet, for the second morning in a row - woke to a fever, and hacking. Not to be! Oh well, next weekend another weekend and another race.

PF Chang's Rock and Roll Arizona is next. I signed up for the Full. Unless I have a quick recovery from all that is sick - it will be the Half instead. Following AZ RR - Carlsbad HM and Surf City HM. YES! back to SoCal for some running, beach, surf and family fun.

I might not be done with SoCal just yet this Winter, or early Spring. I really want to kick that 26.2 mile beast soon. LA Marathon in March? It's looking like that will be my next shot at one. Will see? I will be a week into Soccer season by then, so I will have to see how the training and coaching comes together for that.

Anyway, since my conventional defenses of not getting the Flu were a failure. I am open to anything at this point. Do any of ya out there have some interesting tips or ideas to keep the Flu bug away? Do you have any remedies once you get it? Please share?

Yeah! just got a call from my youngest. HE WON! his first basketball game!

Good luck to my Seahawks (chickens) today! You bet I am proud of them. First team ever with a losing record to make the NFL playoffs and win their division! That certainly is something and a record they have all by themselves for a long time.

Have a great weekend and stay healthy!

Cheers!

Your son MUST be a prodigy!!

I hear the seahawks are winning too...(at the moment)

SO about not getting sick..I hear it really helps to a) keep a distance from kids under middle school age, b) get plenty of sleep, c) excerise 4-5 hours a week, mo more, no less d)abstain from all body contact with loved ones.

Hope you feel TONS better soon! Congrats to the winner =D

Oh, I'm sorry you're sick. The flu is so miserable. All that worked for me was to lie in bed and hope I didn't die, so you sound like you're doing better than I did. :) The play by play texts made me laugh. We do that, too. Sometimes it's hard to keep up with the action of the game.

Sending you well wishes for an iron-clad immune system! :)

Out of three times I got a flu shot I got sick twice. Sometimes they guess wrong which flu virus is going to make it to the States. Hope you are feeling better soon. Your wife is so right. Rest is the way to go.

Glad your son is doing much better. Maybe you just got sick so your son could get better! :)

No flu shots for me - last one I took, I had pneumonia two days later. They claim it is safe, but I don't buy it any more - rest, exercise, proper diet, some supplements. At the first sign the system is off, I take echinacea/goldenseal drops, vitamin C/Zinc tablets, and sinus flushes. 3 winters without being sick and no flu shots... Hope you feel better soon Slomo!

I hope you feel better soon!!! The play by play texts are great... almost as if you were there! I'm sure there will be many more games for you to attend!

I've noticed that myself and my other endurance-sports friends rarely get sick, while my non-athlete friends regularly do.

I think you're doing everything right, but sometimes it's still going to get you.

Feel better!!

OH NO!!! I'm so sorry! I hope you feel better soon!! It sounds like your wife knows what she's doing!! Being sick really is the worst, especially when you have a plan to be so active like you do. I'm sure you'll be back on your feet in no time, and will conquer those races! Congrats to your son!! :)

SO glad to hear that your boy is all healed up and kicking you-know-what at basketball! Sad to hear that you're under the weather, though! The flu is the worst! Last time I had it, I had to keep a lot of changes of clothes by my bed because I'd wake up soaked after my fever broke in the night, freezing, and needing to change. Ultimately, the best thing for the flu is rest. It's a pretty harsh thing for your body to fight and it has to work hard to do so. Hang in there, Slomo, and I hope you feel better soon!
