.... yet not great news. I went to see the Doc today. Not my usual one. Still a good one. He is amused and amazed ( I think more the former than the latter) with my running. I have seen him before - for the same problem. So, we have a history.
Anyway, X-rays show nothing broken and no spurs. Hairline fracture cannot be ruled out. However, he felt fairly confident it was my same old tendon flare up. He did think I could have a degeneration issue going on. I have a history of sports ankle injuries. If it keeps happening he wants me to see an Ortho Specialist.
Recommendations: Just say no to Vegas this weekend even if you feel you can do it Sunday AM. Shoot for Tucson a weekend later, yet not if you still can't walk or jog without pain :) (obviously he senses he has a running geek freak as a patient). If still painful after 10 days from now I need to see him again. Also, gave me a prescription NSAID not an OTC one. It makes me pretty dizzy so this will be very temporary. Yet, it is helping already. RICE, RICE, RICE. No to cortisone shots due to possible tendon rupture. I have had surgery for that once - never again. The only other item he brought up were shoes. Either try new ones or change them sooner than later around 200 miles, than waiting for 300 miles or more.
Other than that nothing new. It feels better with the new meds. Still feels weak with pain just walking. There is just no strength in there even while walking. Hurts putting weight on it and pushing off with my toes.
OK EMZ I give in - this SUCKS! Yet, NO WAY do I give up. As I told the Doc, not only is 26.2 still the goal, but a 50K and 50 miler some day.
Cheers!

You are quite a trooper Slomo. Good luck with the rehab and we'll keep our fingers crossed that the speedy recovery is in the cards (sorry for the cheesy Vegas pun!).
Recover fast. Injuries suck big time. Hope you can do some cross training that does not drive you nuts.
Might be time to start looking at bikes again. Maybe mixing it up a little would help. What about adding strength training (you - kettle, me - pot)? I hope it heals quickly so you can get back on your goals.
Way to keep making big goals! I found that with my recent injury when I was on the couch unable to run or really walk much, my dreams grew bigger and I was more determined than ever before to make them reality. funny how sometimes injuries can come around to be just what we needed to push us farther than we ever dreamed of going. Excited to see you conquer this and come back strong!
Keep a positive attitude, and you'll get through this. Hugs Slomo!
Awww, it DOES suck...going on 9 months now with my heel! Sorry about Vegas but it's worth it if you can get to Tucson next week...I know how much it'd mean to you to meet Emz and how hard you've trained for that race! Crossing fingers, and toes, for a very speedy recovery!! VERY!
Sorry. I feel your pain...(a little higher up my leg). I'm not going to be doing Vegas this year either. Recover recover recover. That is the goal to be able to keep running, right?! Good luck, hope your ankle feels better sooner rather than later!!
I want to say how much I appreciate your positive attitude. It's so hard to stay in a good mindset in the midst of an injury, but you stay happy and optimistic. It's awesome, Slomo :) Thanks for keeping up with your blog, your training, and for continually inspiring me to run better and stay happy. I hope that your ankle continues to improve and that you feel better in time for Tucson. My fingers are still crossed for ya!
I am sorry to hear about your injury Slomo. Please take care of yourself:) Hugs and smiles!
