I picked the Tucson Marathon several months back because it seemed the perfect choice. Weather and climate similar to Vegas. No humidity mainly. Yet, as EMZ posted radiantly this morning with a happy sun - 80 is expected. Hopefully (and I mean hopefully in a very real, literal way), it will only be near 70 when I finish this thing. I will take it though. The last Full I did 14 years ago - in Seattle - 39 degrees, constant downpour of rain mixed with snow, sleet and hail. I will never do a Half or Full Marathon in Seattle the month of November again!
I am limping into this event this weekend. Stomach and/or intestinal issues I am having the last few days are leaving me weak and or painful. About all I can digest is broth. Yes, I did?! I ate way too much of the wrong thing Sunday or Monday after Vegas RR. Plus, my legs - exhausted right now. No spring in them. No longer sore though after Vegas RR HM on Sunday, but my 7 miler today was anything but speedy - even for a slomo.
I am excited to try this and see how I do regardless. Plus, I know people who rave about the area where the Marathon is so much they think I will move there. Yah, these are not close friends :). Anyway, I am excited for the attempt. Will see what the outcome is. For pretty much any Half Marathon right now - I know after 10 of them in the last 14 months - what my outcome will be. Obviously, in contrast, the full 26.2 is a pretty big wild card? Yet, that's what makes it so fun. It feels little like when I did my first 13.1 in 13 years.
Cheers!

We've
freaking
got
this.
heat, intestines & all!!
I bet you're excited. :) Every new thing for me gets me excited and happy and nervous. Of course, this isn't new for you, but maybe "new again". Cooler temps are so much nicer to run in, but I have to say that 70 or 80 sounds phenomenal after today's single-digit start. Enjoy!
Wish you temps in low 60s, no wind, strong legs and healthy stomach.
Psst - out of town Slomo - will catch up soon... ;-)
I'm sorry to hear that your stomach is on the fritz. I love the holidays, but man -- do they ever offer waaaay too many temptations! I hope that the intestinal troubles will resolve soon.
Good luck in your big return to the full marathon! My fingers are crossed for healthy joints, a happy stomach, fantastic weather, and last but not least, a fun, fun run.
Also - never say never! The Seattle race this year was GORGEOUS! A little cold, yes, but no wind, no rain, just a little fog :) Just sayin'
Good luck!! Get someone to block the wind - it was atrocious last year :p. Have a blast - very pretty course!!
