Gratitude for the Day: Friends (My Second Family) and the NYC Marathon

Jelly Beans, popcorn, and great friends. What more do you need to be thankful for? I guess Peppermint Patty needed the Turkey.

It is officially November now to me and Thanksgiving. Watching the NYC Marathon this AM had a way of bringing the FALL out of me (living in Vegas - palm tress and cactus - not so much). Central Park with all the great Autumn colors. Thinking Macy's parade and the Balloons are coming soon. It also had me thinking about several memorable Seinfeld episodes as well. Which in turn, had me thinking of my friends.

Seinfeld to me was not just a show about nothing :). It was a show about friendship. I have to say, I have been blessed when it comes to friends. Many over the years. Yet, the ones I met in College and most of my 20's - well some of them became Family to me. We became close. Sharing late nights, weekends, movies, concerts, great Thai, Pizza and Burgers together. Long weekends, road trips and vacations as well. We also shared Thanksgiving.

There was always someone in our group of too much time on our hands (I only say that now after being married and raising my own where time is always too short) who was not able to make it home for this Holiday. Which always seemed like all of us. NC always made the Pies. She knew I loved Apple, and had THE best home made Apple Pie. Sorry, Mom it was better. BA always had some amazing side to bring, plus beverages to try. My job was the Bird and stuffing each year. The rest - SC, BS, RLG, JS and JB brought plenty of store bought extras, chips, dips, entertainment, lots of laughs and smiles.

For about 7-8 years this group of friends felt more like a Superfriend Thanksgiving than Charlie Brown (Peanuts) gathering. We hardly ever see each other any more. Grown up, most of us are married now, and a few like me have kiddos. Life happened for us. Yet, I thank all of ya. We really were a Family of Super Friends.

NYC Marathon.

I have typically watched the broadcast each year when available. This year was very cool for that. Universal Sports (NBC) offered pretty extensive coverage. It was fun to watch. As mentioned earlier it just brings out the Fall in me. This year having three people I know running made it even more fun. Each one had never done it before. Each had similar feelings based on texts, phone call and blog reports (Meg was a little more worried about the hairy men of NY than the others - funny). Yet, each talked about the hugeness, the order of it, the sidewalk support, the bridges (which kinda freaked one friend) and how this might be the best time to be or thing to do in NYC.

Anyway, I am very intrigued. I need to do this one now. I will send in my application for 2011, and maybe lottery luck will shine. If not 2011, than I have two more tries before they say I'm In.
Then again, I am not too happy with what the NY Giants just did to my Seahawks today. Run Dangerously and Chicken Underwear look out!

Oh, yeah...your Seahawks (Sea Monkeys as my youngest likes to taunt our resident family Seahawk fan) are not having a brilliant year so far.

While I don't love the cold cold weather we get sometimes here, I do love getting to really experience all four seasons, and fall is one of my favorites!

Your group of friends sounds great. Since I had kids so young, I never had that experience of being on my own with friends. Great memories you all made. :)

How does one gauge the seasons in Vegas??? So it sounds like you seriously have the bug there Slomo - Marathon madness has taken control. Good luck on that lotto!

I could definitely see you in New York running the marathon :). Of course, there are many marathons here in Colorado, too -- but I guess they aren't has prestigeous as NY!! Loved the story about your friends...reminded me of many old friends that I no longer hear from anymore.

Have a great week :). Oh, was good to hear from you on FB comment!! hehe.
