Bits and Pieces Part X: "Lightning Strikes in the Evening..."

Yes, it is The Replacements (the title quote). One of my favorite bands from Minneapolis. No, we don't have cactus like this in the desert between Vegas and SoCal. EMZ does in Arizona though - lucky. We do have electrical strikes in the sky like this. Having them right now as I type, and on the drive home from Long Beach the other night. Great show for the kids to see. I was also able to see a few strikes this AM, early, during a 5 miler.

Yep, I said 5 miler one day after the Long Beach HM. This is actually a milestone for me to be honest. One, I am not injured like I was right after Disney HM. Plus, my legs and body were very ready to go again this AM at 5:30. Nice run. Kept it slow and easy for 80% of it. Great feeling knowing my legs felt as fresh as they did one day removed from a HM race. This is a first for me. Typically, I have needed 4-5 days off after. It has me pumped, especially knowing my upcoming running schedule in January.

The rest of the week - rest day tomorrow. Thursday a 7-8 miler. Saturday - 15-16 miler. Yep, I am being a good little runner in his mid 40's. I am taking rest days in between runs. This was a change I made over a month ago, and it seems to be working. This and my form/technical tweaks, along with the perfect new kicks (my feet and legs love my Nimbus 12's). So far, so great!

Another big change for me. I am changing up my diet again. This time around paying more attention to salt intake along with sugar. Although, as most know - I like my Mexican bottle Coca-Cola made with cane sugar. This will not be an easy one for me.

Thanks again for all the support and comments of late. Keep them coming! It is great hearing from all of ya! Love the support! Take care out there and kick some dirt, asphalt or concrete!

Cheers!

PS - Meg, I almost forgot. I spent time this morning as Parent helper in my son's Kindergarten class. What a treat! There is something about being in the classroom with 17, five year olds that puts a big permanent smile on my face. Too fun! "who let the A's out, A-A-A-A. Who let the B's out, buh, buh, buh, buh... ." Can't get this song out of my head now. Fun! Yes, of course, I got 8-10 of them in a fun game of Soccer at recess.

Wow, same issues. I felt wrecked, & frankly kinda depressed, after Disneyland Half. This LB Half, I finished better, bit faster, and I feel good today. Progress is an amazing thing, huh? Still thinking about mixing in some short Tri's to maybe lessen the long runs on my joints. We'll see..

Awesome progress Slomo - glad you recovered well from the race! And the lightning shows are spectacular.

Positive progress is a good thing, eh? Good luck with the sugar and salt; maybe say that once a week you can have one or two of those Mexican sodas :).
