Bits and Pieces Part IV: Better

Yes, somewhere in the above diagram lies all my aches, pains and mental cursing. Peroneal issues yes. However, this time around I have been actually more concerned with my Achilles. A knot or nodule the size of a large chocolate morsel (or Junior Mint) existed there less than two weeks ago. Today, almost all gone. No, I did not make cookies with it. I massaged the Haiti's out of it for over a week. It is still there some, but now the size of a small - very small unpopped popcorn kernel. Yeah, I know - chocolate morsels, Junior Mints, cookies and popcorn - I feel like snacking at the movies! Instead I started stretching and strengthening it, instead of taking it to the movies.

Better. No pain. Some stiffness after each set. So, I am thinking maybe a light, short run tomorrow to test it out with my new kicks (or, as Jeri would say - for some Nimbus love). As I bring back order into my Jedi Runners World, this time I will be living, breathing, sleeping and of course running the Chi-running way Master. Read over the book again and watched a video online or two. I think my not so young Padawan self is ready to meet and defeat my own Darth Achilles.

Yeah, okay that was lame. I am bored and need to run again soon. If not I am stuck in this world of the Lame.

Anyway, those concerned, really the ankle is better. For how long is the issue now. Hopefully no more. Yes, Glenn,  I have registered for Crystal Cove in December. Can't wait. This will be my plunge into the Trail Running race world. Such a beautiful one to do as well. With beaches across the PCH to soak my legs afterwards. Colder the better in December when it comes to that.

Disneyworld! Can't wait! I have been contemplating the Goofy Challenge as well. Since, I have Carlsbad HM two weeks after and Surf City 4 weeks after - I think I have my own little goofiness going on though. Hope to see ya there Jeri!

Cheers!

Easy on the mental cursing... You have a lot of running to do yet on those ankles & legs, so don't hurt their feelings! Mmmmm, junior mints - ever sprinkle those on ice cream for a tasty treat? Far better than sprinkled on an ankle... :-)

You crack me up! Congratulations on shrinking that knot - I feel like I've never successfully minimized the size of a knot.

Ha, ha...snack references and Goofy comments...you crack me up today. I AM happy the ankle is doing better. That pictures confuses my simple little brain and I couldn't spot Darth A. anywhere. Are you sure he's in there?
Steve is running the Xterra race in December, too!!

Oh, I'm sending the book off tomorrow...forgot to tell you that.
Happy Weekend, GO Ladybugs!

Here's what I got from Blaise Dubois' booklet (this is going to be a long comment):)
Change your shoe gradually, over a period of 3 or 4 weeks.

He also has "A Practical Guide to Progression"
. An increase in volume should not exceed 10% per week
. In training combine minutes of walking with running to reduce the incidence of injury

.The weekly long run should not exceed the longest run of the previous week by more than 10-15 minutes

He also suggest adding cross-training to boost volume

He mentions that the first snow or a different running surface should all be approached as a change and taken gradually. He repeats often that "any change must be gradual so that the body has time to adapt"

There's more, but this probably gives you a good idea...hope it helps :)

Thanks for coming by.

Oooh that's the exact spot my ankle was hurting in about a year ago, and again right after my race last week. Hope the stretching and news shoes do the trick! I hope to see you in WDW as well. there are some variables that are keeping me from committing just yet. We shall see though. I sure hope it works out!!
