Bits and Pieces Part 2 : Pre Race Report

Ready! Pretty much sums it up. I am ready for my second Disneyland Half Marathon. Frankly just stating - "Ready" - is a fun thing. Compared to how incredibly nervous I was going into last years. Refresh - last years Disney HM was my first 13.1 in 13 years. Not only that, I was doing it in honor and in memory of my Sister who passed away 4 months previous from a long, hard fought battle with Cancer.

I spent sometime reading over my race report from a year ago. Wow! Very emotional. Emotional report and even more emotional to do. I will forever have that very real feeling I felt at mile 10. I was ready to give up and walk at this point. Yet, no matter how slow my pace was - I couldn't. Knowing the HELL my sister went through from multiple Radiation and Chemo treatments, and just the sheer pain in the final weeks - no way. NO way could I stop and walk! It was at this time, I felt as if my Sister was with me every step and stride till the end. Exiting Angels Stadium, I said to myself and my Sister - "hope on my back Sis and lets go for a ride!" Finish it! Then seeing all my kids and wife waiting to cheer me at the finish - THE best!

This year, though, after a year of running since. After doing 6 more HM's since - I definitely go into this years race with a different perspective. Yet, no matter how much better I maybe at this since - Mile 10 - even a year later - will hold a special place in my heart and mind again. I still do this one for you Sis!

Now, here is the new fun in all this. My wife and three oldest will all be doing their first 5K's the day before, and in my wifes' case; her first race ever. They are all excited - very nervous in my wifes' case - but excited none the less. She is more ready than she is giving herself credit for. It will be fun cheering them on and meeting them at the Finish. Can't wait!

Oh, and we get to spend a few days at the Happiest Place on Earth. Ready for the weekend!

Take care out there. Hope you are all still well and running! Kick it!

Cheers!

I've been checking FB for a status update on your half marathon and your families 5k (I'm sure that isn't your first priority!)! I hope it went well for you all!

No matter how hard we work as runners and how much pain we endure, it doesn't even compare to how hard it is on someone with cancer. I wasn't a follower at this time last year, but I'm going to have to go back and read your report.
