A Week for the Kids

A week of fun in other words. Two end of season soccer parties and a field trip to the museum. Fun! Thanks to all the parents with each team I coached this past season. Pool party early in the week and last nights BBQ were all successes due to good food and great people. It was a fun season.

Today, I had the chance to chaperon my daughters class to the Discovery Museum in Vegas. The facility is okay - nothing too great. Yet, probably just the right size for them though. They all had a blast. My daughter was just excited to ride a bus with her Dad and her friends. Moments I will never trade - not even for running.

Running. Actually okay this week. Hard miles though. Monday, I got in just under 13 miles. Interesting when I got home from the late night run. I checked my blog noticing a comment from Happy Trails. Are you keeping track of my miles from Colorado? Saying it might be time to crack open another box of NB's was pretty prophetic. Halfway through that run all the signs of worn out running shoes all over. Knees, hips, lower back and feet were aching. The mileage was not up to high on them, at least running. However, I have been using them for everyday shoes for the last few weeks as well. So, yep another box opened and the brand new smell of NB 1062's filled my nostrils as I ran last night.

Yesterday, was my first run since Monday's 13. My old aching knees thanks to worn out NB's needed the time off.  It was an easy pace 5.25. Started out slow. Only because I was full of Soccer Party BBQ and Cake. Last two miles was a very nice glide into the front door though. Tonight another 5 and tomorrow some Trail/Mt. Hill work. Sunday off. Monday (Happy Memorial Day) wake up early for 10-11 miles.

Next week is my version of taper going into the San Diego Rock and Roll HM. 10-11 miles Monday. Wednesday 5-6 miles. Then I shut it down till Sunday AM Race day. Look forward to another Family getaway, beach time and - oh - 13.1 miles. Plus, a really cool looking medal (if I finish). I got a peak at them on Facebook the other day.

Have a fantastic weekend out there. I hope most of ya have time off to spend with family, loved ones or your running shoes. Keep those who have fallen in service of your country in mind as well. See ya in SD!

Cheers!

What corral are you going to be in? I'm driving up on Sunday AM, so I should be in the start area with time to kill. Hope to see you this weekend!

Just keeping an eye on you, Slomo ;-) Nothing quite like new shoes on the first run! Have a great weekend, enjoy time with the family, and get ready for that HM.
