Wow, 200! Never thought I had much to say, but the number is there - 200.
Yes, I have a race this weekend. Am I ready? NO! Thanks high desert Vegas weather. For two-three days straight 35 mph sustained winds and most of yesterday it was near 50 mph, with a few over. Many street signs in our part of the Valley came crashing down. Palm trees had this permanent state of fighter pilot G-Force. Dust and desert real estate filled the air for two days.
Anyway, my only run since this past Sunday AM St. George 3 miler, a 4.5 mile treadmill tempo run last night at the gym. I have not had a double digit mileage run since a week from this past Saturday - yep 15 days ago! I race in 2.5 days. Yikes!
Strategy. Since I never really taper anyway, tonight I double digit- at least 10 or more. Yes, if you know me I never do the full 13 just prior to any race as well. I like the mystery of it all on race day. Then Friday and Saturday off. Will see how it works out. Especially, given the bad Vegas weather and I am doing this race not knowing if I have hills to tackle, or all flats! Never done it before and have yet look at a course map. This will also be my first HM since February's Surf City (still my favorite event).
I will also be cutting the travel time close on Saturday. I have one early AM soccer game to coach that day. The other game will have a parent Sub. Yes, I have said it before - no more races during Soccer season(s). My older boys games will be at the same time as the game I coach in the morning. So, at least that worked out. Without any issues (knock on wood) we should get to the Expo with hours to spare for packet pickup.
Last nights treadmill run was a pretty fast pace for 4.5 miles. I mixed in some treadmill hill action as well. This AM, feel great. Except one little ole thing? Yep, my ankle again. It is not as bad as it was originally. Yet, pain stronger than it has been in the last few weeks or more. It seems to come and go. Once I walk around for a bit, it goes away.
So, with all that said - Happy 200 postings! Hope I make it to the OC in time without any travel issues, my ankle is healthy and I have enough HM fuel in the tank from all the previous HM's. I certainly feel well under trained for this one! Should be interesting - or, a mystery.
Real quick note. I apologize for being a bad blogger friend of late. I have read as many of the blogs I regularly follow as I can. Yet, if I have not left a comment - Puddle Thumper, RocksNroots, Jill, Jeri, Happy Trails, Glenn, Meg, Tara, Julie, Tina, Running Artist and any and all others of late - doesn't mean I have not been reading. Thanks for all your comments on the last few postings. Plus a quick hello to the new folks who seem to read/follow (without the official public following) and leave a comment now and then.
Cheers!

Good luck with the race. Even if you find you're undertrained, it sounds like you've got the right mental attitude. Hope that weather calms down a bit for you.

Oh man, I think the high winds are everywhere this spring. Here too! And I don't normally notice such high winds!
Congrats on your 200th post Slomo! Not to worry about blog slacking (although, you've always commented on mine), I go through the same thing every now and then. Sometimes you just need a break. No worries!!
