Just don't tell my wife this. Well, actually we are both very much in the time is short for Vegas living mode. Yet, on a day like today - 70 and lots of sun - in February. Moving seems far fetched. Perfect day weatherwise and beats any Feb. Day in the Pacific NW and especially Topeka, KS where I have lived before.
Running. Two really nice near back to back runs. I ended up not feeling things were right for a run Tuesday. Anyway, Monday's 8.5 and last nights 10 mile runs felt as near perfect as the weather.
Last night was interesting. I left later than I wanted at 9PM. I was thinking, oh just put in a quick 5 and go to bed. Yet, 5 miles came and went. By the time I was at mile 7, my body felt not only great - it did not want to stop. However, by the time mile 9 came around I was tiring some and legs were revolting a tad. Yet my overall energy level was great throughout. By the time I got back home I was thinking 5 more quick miles?
You know don't let this get around, but I think I have found my pre-long run fuel. Doughnuts. Yes, donuts! Something I rarely eat. Yes, it is true - I mean - rarely. However, some left over Krispy Kremes were given to us. I ate two. One around 3PM and the other just right before my run last night. My other fuel for the day was, PBJ sandwich on whole wheat, yogurt, Banana and a Chix Caesar Salad for Dinner. So, maybe I need to plan all my longish running routes going thru my local Krispy Kreme Drive Thru :) ?
Hey, thanks for all the nice comments with my last posting. Runners are great. I do think I am runner. Yet, I just don't feel complete at times. I am just feeling more challenges are needed. I need to stretch my rubberband a little more. Or, wind it up tighter? Whatever metaphor works best?
Speaking of Challenges - never short of them. Found out yesterday I will be coaching two Soccer teams this season. My youngest, 4 year old team. It will be his first time and I am sure for all the other boys on the team. Plus, yes again, I will be coaching my daughters team. I guess enough of the parents from the previous Ladybugs team liked me. Amazing since we did not win all season. They played hard and had fun. It will be interesting to see who is coming back?
Here is the challenge? The day of the first games for both teams is the day of the 6 Tunnels Trail Half Marathon! I put in a request to the scheduler for afternoon games that day. Will see? March 13th, could be 13.1 Miles and two soccer games in one day. Could be fun. I will also have another potential conflict with the Havasu HM as well in April.
March 6th is another local Marathon and Half Marathon event. Local group called Calico Racing has a series of runs throughout the year here. Red Rock HM is the 6th. I just might? Yet how insane is it to do back to back weekends of HM races? The best thing is they are both on Saturdays. The worst thing, they are both on Saturdays with Soccer commitments both those days; either a coaching clinic or first game. Red Rock HM is a challenging course. Gradual uphill for the first 6 miles, levels off, than turn around back down the hill. Beautiful location for a race though. It will be on the road that goes through the Red Rocks Preserve just outside of town.
Thanks again for the nice comments on the last posting. Have a great day!
Cheers!

As I sit here and stare out my bedroom window watching snow come down, I'm envious of Vegas and your 70 degree weather right now! I am wonder if 1) it will ever warm up in Denver and 2) if my cold will ever go away. Wow, you run late! As long as you can sleep okay at night then ya gotta run when you can!! Good luck with the soccer - though challenging, it will be a blast!!
I used to run at night, late at night, in college with friends. I loved it!
I'm happy you're back to coaching, I loved the stories!
Hi Jill and Meg - my two favorite Boston Marathon runners. I hate running late. Sometimes you gotta do when you have the time. It does mess with my sleep. I either walk in the door straight to bed with out even taking my shoes off crashing. Or, like last night I am up for another 2 hours. Either way - I am the walking dead the next day. Today, has been a light one though.
Hi Slomo,
Wow, you are coaching both your son and your daughter's soccer teams!! Rock star!! I don't know how you do it Slomo:) Congrats on the back to back runs...good job! OMG, you seriously had 7o degree weather today!! I am super jealous:) At least for now, I remember when I was working in the airline industry opening up the aircraft doors during summer in Las Vegas...Yowzer it was hot!!! Just think tomorrow it is Friday:) Woo hoo, the weekend is almost here!!!
Ooooo, a trail half marathon sounds fun! You'll need lots of doughnuts for that one! He He. I love your new pre run fuel. Maybe I'll try it too, I've been feeling blah lately.
Kudos on coaching soccer. I probably wouldn't have the patience. I admire people who can do that.
Doughnuts for fuel - yes they do work. Kathleen once ate a whole box of doughnut holes after finishing a night lap at 24 Hours of Moab. It's amazing what you will burn through when pushing your body!!
Good job on the runs, though if I ran 10 that late I would never fall asleep.
BTW - gave you a Sunshine award.
I can't even fatham what 70 degrees feels like right now. I'm crossing my fingers for no wind and mid 20s for my 14 miler tomorrow. :p
Ha! You know my view on doughnuts - I can't start a race without my Apple Fritter!
Thanks for talking about your run last night - isn't is such a great feeling whe all the cylinders are firing and a run just seems effortless?
Oh - I've heard of Red Rock. Supposed to be a beautiful run!
