Rethinking 2010

For those wondering I will have Surf City Pix up soon. My wife has the camera in her purse. I keep forgetting to get it back. There are none of me and my race. Just lots of the kids doing theirs and then the camera battery died. I would rather see my kids over any pix of me. My brother in law took some nice post run shots of myself with my sister and nephews. I should get those soon. If the race (I assume ASI) photographer shots are okay (none that have me looked mugged by the mileage) I will post them. Again, I can't tell ya how much fun we had at this one. As long as we have the ability to do so - this will be a yearly race event for us.

As the title of the post states, I am rethinking 2010 race events. Mainly, due to two reasons. One is more positive than the other so I will go with that first. I am liking the idea of this theme - 13.1 Miles of 13 Half Marathons in 13 Months. What do you think?

It obviously hit me since I did Vegas in December, Phoenix in Jan. , and now Surf City this month. I have registered for 6 Tunnels in March as well. Now, I just need one for April (maybe Salt Lake City, although I have not heard good things about it), May, July, August, October, November and Dec. again. Hmmm...? I really like the distance of the HM as I have noted before. It does give me a challenge. Plus, I have noticed doing more and more. My recovery back running is getting shorter and shorter. I feel I can down some mileage today just 48 hours out. I guess it is my happy distance. At least for now.

None of this has changed my Full Marathon outlook much for this year. I will gradually increase the mileage starting late March for a June 26.2. Plus, I would like to do a Fall one as well. St. George is the top choice if lottery luck smiles my way. If not maybe Long Beach or Portland.

Anyway, I think I am finally caught up on most everyone's blogs. Great reading as usual. Good to hear from ya Puddle Thumper. Lincoln will be a fun one for ya. Jamie Donaldson, Sunshine Makes Me Happy, and Run More and Talk Less have some fun postings on the Rocky Raccoon 100 over the weekend in Texas. Thanks for sharing. Love the Fire Ant Jamie. Meg, Jill and Rundangerously good luck with final stretches of your Boston training. Thanks for keeping my REI profitable Tara. Tricia the foot/heel will heal soon. Congrats Jennifer on the Saints win and good luck with rest of your training. Minnesota Julie, your too kind and sweet. Thanks for all your happy vibes. Happy Trails can't tell ya how much I appreciate your comments. You are always spot on. Glenn waiting for your full Surf City race report. Sorry I was not able to find ya in the crowd. I tried. Good luck to everyone else, including my favorite South Dakota 20 something runner and fellow #4 fan! I would have fit right in with my green Jets home jersey of #4. Runners are the best peeps!

Cheers!

Dying for a sunny beach picture - snowing off and on for 48+ hours now!!! Glad you are feeling so well - make sure to take care of that foot, too. Don't want to miss out on Slice of Slomo happiness due to foot malfunction! :) Plenty of HM's in Colorado ... just sayin' ....

Hi Slomo! I am behind on blog reading too; it is a busy time huh?

Congrats on your race! I'm sorry that you slowed in the last three miles, but you sound like you had a very nice time and it sounds like you had fun! It also sounds like your wife had a great time visiting family.

I like the 13 miles of 13 halfs in 13 months. Kind of catchy!

Have you thought about any races in Colorado? Or, I am still kicking around the St Louis half in April. What about that one?

I love OC beaches, I'd move there in a heartbeat if I could afford it. I think that's a very admirable, and fun, quest doing the 13.1 races in each month. Colorado has one in April called The Platte River. Just sayinglike Happy Trails did ... :).

Thanks for the nice shout-out. I love reading your blog. I'm glad things have calmed down for you and you are breathing a tad better. I don't think there's ever going to be a "right" time to up and move kids, there's always something that isn't ideal...so when you do do it, you gotta just do it and make the most of it. It will all work out as it's meant to be, I truly believe that!

Have a great evening!!

I'm enjoying your "slices" of happiness. I immediately thought of mine; lemon merengue, apple, peach and cherry...jk. Your list makes me smile! I can't wait to see the SC pictures of your kids and stay dry our there, it's pouring here!
Final stretch of training you say? Gosh, I feel like I haven't yet started. Eek, I'm behind, oh no! :)

If you're going to crank up the Halfs, have you heard of these folks?

Way to go! Glad you're feeling so good after Surf City!

Thanks for the shout out- training goes well! I love the 13 in 13 idea. I'll keep my ears open for any fall/winter ones that look interesting down this aways.

13.1 will always be my favorite distance, and I think 13 13.1's in 13 months sounds like a GREAT goal. Would that have you back in Vegas in Dec. for the 13th? Unlucky 13 could equal a meet up with me! We could even wear our Favre jerseys (ok prob not, I'm guessing it'd make me chafe like no other :p).
