Tired 9.5 Last Night

I broke my Running Sabbath rule (sorry Glenn). I ran last night when I typically never train on Sunday. Reason, way behind in miles banked pre Phoenix R&R HM. I still would like to get a PR on this one considering it is a supposed flat course. At least (as far as today's forecast) the weather looks perfect for this upcoming weekend in Phoenix.

Last night I started out fast, then died. I was hoping to get the full distance of 13 miles, but man just got tired. Legs felt good overall. Although in the last month of running I noticed a quad issue. Nothing painful. Mostly just a discomfort that sets in about 6 miles into each run. It will subside, and might come back every now and then. Also, felt some stiffness on the right knee as well with a slight pain. I am chucking it up to the cold (temp. drop). It was 56 when I started the run, when I got home Weatherchannel had 49. Ankles - good! Both felt very strong after a few days off.

Anyway, tired. Just lost the energy and actually hit a slight wall at about mile 7ish? Yikes! Never hit walls anymore at that mileage. Left the house around 8PM, but it was a longish day before this. We had family in town for the day, driving through to California, and all our other Church/Family activities had me on my feet all day. Got home and literally crashed. Crawled right into bed with my sweaty running clothes on minus my shoes. Woke up 5 hours later with my wife asking (elbow poking me), "Pee U - What Stinks!" Had another ammonia pee pee smelly sweat run. Need to eat more Carbs! I doubt my lunchtime In & Out Burger and Fries helped though.

Today, I have the urge to get right back at it again tonight. Shooting for that 12-13 miler. We have just been so busy minus one car, and finding another.

Saturday, was really hoping to get that mileage in, but never was able to get a run in. Both my oldest boys had two Basketball games each and my little (social butterfly) girl had a three hour birthday party to attend. Two of the boys games I had to coach at the last minute due to their coach being sick. Then, finally, got the car shopping done and finished Saturday night.

So tried to get the mileage in last night breaking my Running Training Sabbath, but came up short at 9.5. So, tonight, after it is my turn to take the three oldest to their piano lessons - I get to run. Yippee! An earlier departure than last night for the run should help.

Inspiration or motivation for the day - reading the Blog, A Serious Case of the Runs. The writer and her husband ran for 6 hours yesterday in a Illinois race/event. Folks, the temps were near ZERO when they started with snow on the trails. They just rocked my world with that one. Great effort Crash!!

Also, read Julie from Minnesota's latest blog posting for a story about the coolest High School Principal Award. Plus, great story of self-reliance making it through college.

Cheers!

Stopped by from Megs and saw you are running Seattle! I have signed up but not announced it yet! Looks like you are wayyy more marathon advanced than me, so I'll be excited to see how things go

Don't you hate starting out strong and then, before you know it, you are running on fumes? I think it is good to get a little of the crusty stuff out of the tank before the race though. Good luck - we'll be awaiting the results!!

...Oh - By The Way, thanks for mentioning the 70 degree weather you'll be having. Send some our way. :)

Sounds like the tank's a little low by the time you get started. If you're running tht late at night are you taking any fuel (carbs) a couple of hours before you go? That might help.

I don't know how you do it, so many activities! Keep any eye on the quad, with so much mileage you want to make it happy! Yea and I second the weather comment- gosh, send some south! Cheers!
