11.77 Miles

In the bank. 11.77 Miles in the Runner Bank of Slomo. I needed to get that in. Delays, life stuff happenings, tired body all popping up in the last 3 days. The run was pretty darn nice. Lots of energy no pains of anything till the last 3 miles. Lower right Hamstring area, back of my right knee felt some stiffness and some dull pain/discomfort. Iced it when I got home. Not making too much of it, because with the next 4 days off I think it will subside to nothing at all.

Now what? Well, Houston we have a problem. My wife just called to tell me there is a remote possibility we may not be able to make this weekend happen. Remote though. Coverage. Funeral for a co-worker to attend this weekend. My wife has three options to make it all happen, but has yet to hear from them yet.

I have written about this previous. My wife's occupation is really hard to plan ahead for. It drives us crazy sometimes. Day to day we can deal with it. Yet, whenever we plan advanced time off for vacations, or weekend getaways - things just happen. It is usually the weekend getaways which are the worst. Remember I missed the Big Sur Half due to this.

So, anyway, today is Wednesday. Will see what happens over the next few days. It will all work itself out one way or other. Right now, I will just concentrate on what I need to do today. Plus, last nights run overall really was a good one. The type of run that says, "This is the reason why I do this."

If your asking why not the full 13.1 miles last night? I like leaving myself short a mile or two going into any race. In singing, which is something I know something about, you never give 100% of what you have on any performance. You try to hold back your power by 20% typically. Reason - there is always tomorrow. Never want to burn yourself out knowing you have more to do, plus you never want to risk injuring your instrument. It is a way to preserve what you have today, by always having some reserves for tomorrow.

Okay, on that note, I need to jet.

Take care and if I don't post before this weekend - everyone have a great weekend with some great runs! Oh, RBR glad you are back! I left note/comment for ya on the previous posting.

Cheers!

I hope that things work out and you're able to do your 1/2! I'm surprised you ran that far this close to the race. I usually do my longest long run 2 weeks before race day, and take my long run the week before pretty darn easy. But I'm guessing MOST people don't do a taper like me for a HM. Hah.

Hi Jeri - great to hear from ya. I have missed ya.

Depends on how you perceive the race/event. Do you race it, or do you run it. 75% of the time, I do the latter. Run it for the fun of being there and doing it with other runners. If I PR great, if I do not have it in me that day - fun experience then. So, anyway, "running" them approach means by and large the race is a training run +. Run it too have fun, but if I can eek out a PR go for it. I run for fun first and foremost.

Thanks for coming by Jeri. Hope you make it out for the Vegas RR in Dec. 2010. I am sure you will have fun here.

One of the options came through for us. Phoenix RR and 70 degree weather is on! Well, at least for now.

I'm glad an option opened up for you, you sound pumped for the race. I do agree with your idea on holding back, I never heard of it related to singing but it does make sense. If I do what I might do, I will definitely go into having held back...maybe 30 or 40 %!! Hope all goes well this weekend, have fun!!

The "money" is in the bank, now go for broke and get that PR buddy! Have a great time running, plus enjoying your family!

I agree with your philosophy on not going 100% on practice runs. It makes sense and I also practice this theory:) Also, I love your nonchalant attitude....it is what it is! Good job on your runs!!!

Glad to hear that you're going to Phoenix! It should be nice - you'll catch it between storms!

I learned the hard way that training is training and *not* raci. When I first started, I tried to run every run like it was a race. I was *always* tired. The minute I took the right advice to slow my trainig runs down, I started setting PRs at every distance!

Time to take a couple days off now. Have a great time this weekend!
