Harsh 9.5

First, the bug or flu gremlin that keeps haunting our family - time to go away now. Geez! Now my daughter again. Temp of 102 last night and sore throat. She had a rough night. Tears, frowns, and lots of cuddle time with both Mom and Dad. Trust me, we have a very clean house, clean clothes, very hygienic family that eats right. The only one not getting sick through all of this recurring nightmare is me. I guess that was one good Flu shot I got. Or, running is the cure to getting H1N1. Don't tell Nike. If they find out, I am sure a shoe marketed to fight the Flu will come soon - The Fluglider.

Anyway, no run last night as planned. Plus, this AM run was awful. Worst run I have had in months. Wanted 13, ended up 3.5 short. I felt really tired 2 miles in. Then my knees started to lose it. No endurance in them both - tired feeling. Then my feet started to ache with gravity their worst enemy.

At this point I will chuck it up to not eating the best last night. Getting to bed late. Knowing I needed to stay home today with sick soccer princess, I had to do realworld last night. So, I had a late night. However, the knee/quad downhill workout is still saying hello to my tired 43 year old legs. It is also time to retire a pair of shoes from runs over 6 miles, and start breaking in a new pair. Icing my knees as I type. I will stay off the feet hanging with my daughter on the couch all day watching Dora, Barbie, Nemo, Ariel and Belle. All her favorites, except she will miss her second to last Soccer practice this afternoon :(.

Anyway, if anyone has a Flu Bug Voodoo doll send it to me. I have a few pins I would like stick it with!

Cheers!

Voodoo doll burnt and sufficiently tortured on your behalf! :-)

Poor thing! I hope she feels better soon (and that you don't get it too).

Ha! Funny doll, hysterical but too sad. Sorry about the bug and the hard run. Don't be too hard on yourself; little rest and a poor diet make such a big difference on any run. You'll make up for it later this week! Chin up...

One bad run doth not a winter make. Or something like that...

Don't beat yourself up over a couple of miles. You are better off in the long run by resting. No harm done to your fitness level.

And thanks for the advice. I think I took a week off, and I'm actually enjoying the shorter runs on this cycle. I would normally *not* be thinking marathon yet, but the lure of the new L.A. course is pretty strong. The problem is that 18 weeks starts on Monday. I'm going to wait until the last possible minute to sign up, just in case I end up with a case of burnout. Believe me, if it was the old L.A. course this would *not* be an issue.
