"Once upon a time there was a plaid overnight case."
Home with sick kids today. All of them are sick, except one. I have a break while the youngest, the most deliriously chatty at this point is trying to sleep. Poor little guy. He was really hot last night and coughing. However, the misery trophy goes to our little girl. Her poor little tummy just would not stop. I was up literally all night with her. It was almost like clockwork as well. Every 20 minutes another dry heave. It lasted for 4-5 hours. Finally, it started to settle. She is doing better tummy wise - but has a fever now. Ginger Ale and soda crackers are staying down now.
Well, with that said and after yesterdays more serious post. Something a little lighter. First, the above title and quote. The movie, What's Up Doc. Peter Bogdonavich directed movie, co-written by Buck Henry. Starring Bab's Streisand and Ryan O'Neal. However, anyone who has ever seen the movie - Madeline Kahn ("Eunice!? There is a person named Eunice?") in her introductory role steals the movie, along with the Streets of San Fran and Kenneth Mars is always funny. Released in the early 70's, I think 1972? I saw it when it was first released. I was 6. Never laughed so hard at a movie in a theater until I saw a Monty Python and the Holy Grail in a theater re-release while in Junior High.
I am sure all of us have those flicks, which certainly are not the best movies ever made - yet for some reason you can never see the movie enough. Or, at least no matter how often you see it - your amused, captivated or life is suspended for 90 minutes or more. I have several. Duck Soup and Horse Feathers by the Marx Brothers, Monty Python's Holy Grail and Life of Brian, Lawrence of Arabia, All the Presidents Men, Young Frankenstein, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Searchers, Rushmore, My Life As A Dog, Four Weddings and A Funeral, Notting Hill, Love Actually and at the top of the list is - "What's Up Doc". I guess that is more than several? :) I also forgot to mention Sleepless in Seattle. Yeah, I know and odd mix of movies for a dude. I try to be well rounded.
Anyway, Whats Up Doc is what my sick kids are watching, and for the most they are getting it. Well, it is pretty simple and fun comedy. I got it when I was 6. So, it is no surprise. It is bringing some Cheer into our home. It always makes me want to move to SF or go for a weekend trip there soon.
Okay, running. Meg Runs (glad you are feeling better) inspired this one. She mentioned how she feels blessed with all the interesting and scenic sites on her running routes. It brought to mind my list of favorite places I have run over the years. The list is posted on my blog to the right. I would like to hear from anyone else out there. I liked to know what your favorite place to run regularly, favorite place you have ever run, or maybe even a run, race or event you will always remember as a runner. Of course no one has to do anything in life, but sharing this information might be something inspiring - in a give us all some new run/location to think about in the future. Yes, I am an addicted runner. Here is the proof - I will not vacation anywhere that is NOT a good place for a run. Yes, I point our family vacations in the direction of a good run. Luckily, even Legoland has some great places to go running nearby.
Hope all are well. My right foot still is not 100%. I still feel it first thing in the morning and when I first walk around after sitting for awhile. I have no idea what it is. Thanks RPD for the advice. I like to roll a frozen concentrate can of OJ or Lemonade under my feet post run when things like this pop up. Something soothing for the foot and to drink soon after. I will keep running on it till it goes away, or my foot falls off.
Thanks again for sharing all your heartfelt comments of the previous posting. Something to think about for all of us while we do, what we love doing in life.
Sick kids are calling. Have a great day! Cheers!

Monty Python and the Holy Grail is awesome. Also, History of the World Part 1. Both are less than stellar movie quality but LOL in buckets! Good luck with the sick kiddos!
Poor kiddos, I hope they all get better soon! So, BS is a surfer , as well as being a runner and interestingly, we've only vacationed where the surf is at it's best! I think from now on, that will change. I've run everywhere I've ever been and liked it except for: Little Rock, Arkansas and Brian Head, Utah. Sorry for reading your last post first, I was so confused but what's new?
Great list of movies there Slomohusky! When we meet we'll have to greet each other appropriately (Some..... Some call me.... Tim)
My love of Monty Python was so deep that at one point in time I knew the entire script of the Holy Grail. It was almost as bad as knowing the Rocky Horror Picture Show by heart (but that ws because they played it at a local movie theater every Friday ight at midnight).
Oh - my planning bug. I'm an engineer and an accountant by education - so I'm big on the planning perspective. What Ido is select a training plan, and then look to see what fits where (as far as mileage) when. That's how I select my races. Now - just becuase they are selected doesn't man I've registered yet. I will wait as longas possible on that just to make sure I don't get hit by the injury bug....
Glad to hear the foot is better! And good luck with the sick kids! You are doing yeoman's work!
Last comment - about the L.A. Marathon. Frank McCourt (owner of the Dodgers) bought the marathon last year. They are completely changing the course this year. It used to start up in teh Hollywood Hills and wound it's way through Downtown, East L.A., and portions of South L.A. before winding up back in downtown. This year itstarts at Dodger Stadium, heads out through Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills (even down Rodeo Drive), Century City, Westwood, Brentwood, andends up on the beach in Santa Monica. I don't think it will be very spectator friendly, but should be really neat to run through all those areas of town I grew up around.
Check out theri website after 10/31 for course details, elevation profiles, etc.
Happy Trails - Thanks. I also like High Anxiety by Mel Brooks.
Meg Runs - BS is a surfer. I have tried three times and even have my own board. Not very good at all, but if I lived as close to the beaches as you folks do - catch a wave, lifes a beach.
Little Rock I understand. Been there myself - never need to go again. What happened at Brains Head though?
Glenn - thanks for the LA Marathon info. The foot is still there. Feel it while I walk more than running - odd.
