.... is now routine. Amazing (not the meteor shower - big dud here in Vegas, city of lights), 10 miles once seemed so hard and far just 10 months ago. Heck, even 13 years ago the last I was routinely running - 10 mile training run? Would rather have the proverbial root canal than run that.
Nice 10 miler this early AM. I slowed my pace for it though. I have been letting go on the 6-7 mile distances of late. Been generating some decent times for me. However, this AM, I held back. In fact, I held back on distance as well.
I set out for 13 miles. Actually, I woke up thinking 13. After a few kitchen appliance issues (garbage disposal decided to pick 4:00 AM today to die and leak all over, and my daily fight with the icemaker) delays - 13 would not fit my deadline. Half the kids still sick needing Dad so Mom could see early patients. Plus, the other half needing to get to school. Parenting, and loving my wife - the purpose of my existence can never be delayed. Not even for just 3 more little miles.
Anyway, it was all good. Good run. Did not feel beat up at all or sore afterwards. Felt very fresh and ready for more. My 10 milers actually leave me feeling like my 6 milers just 2 months ago. When I was saying, that, was my favorite distance. I guess, I have new favorite training distance - my nice easy 10 miler. Who would've thunk?! Not me back in January.
Cosmic show? Nothing. You cannot see much of our starry heavens above here in Vegas. I thought being 10 miles or so from the Strip would allow some view of them - nope! Too much light. Silly me thinking I was living back in Topeka, Kansas. Where just 10 miles out of town I actually saw the Northern Lights once. It was amazing. Never thought that far South you could see them? I did see them once traveling late one night in Eastern Washington on US Highway 2 driving in wheat country many years ago.
Oh well, enough of that. I need to run. My sick kids are allowing me to suspend realworld for just another day. However, it keeps calling on my cell as a reminder. In case you have not noticed, after reading today's post - the number of the day is - 10.
Cheers!

Wow, I've never seen so many "10's" in a post, you're right. So glad you're ten today felt good, no foot pain eh?
Here's to healthy kids, I hope yours are better tomorrow!
I am trying to ignore it. The foot that is.
Fevers are getting better, but I think I have one more day home with my little girl and youngest. However, now the second oldest is starting to cough.
I was waiting to hear the voice of The Count from Sesame Street - "Ten, HA HA HA!"
On second thought, not sure if Sesame Street and Vegas mix well . . .
Interesting comment this morning. I guess it all boils down to the definition of "success". Anyone who answers a question about the plan they followed for a marathon with the answer they gave is either (a) lying, or (b) sandbagging. What's the saying? Failure to plan is planning to fail?
I agree with you about which plan works. It *is* individual. I can tell you - Pfitzinger beat me up. This time around. Who knows - in a year it may be perfect!
One thing I know for sure - without a plan, I wouldn't have the structure and knowledge to properly train all systems. And since I lack the athletic ability, that would be like striking out. (As a Dodgers fan I know a lot about striking out today.)
The stroller is a BOB...pretty popular around here!
Isn't that the BEST? When I started running again, 10 miles was the most I did when training for a 1/2....now it's easily my favorite training run distance. Just enough to feel challenging and rewarding, but in a good way. I got to see the northern lights once while in MN in the summer and they were gorgeous. Great job on the 10 miler. :)
