Thanks for all the support. Wow, all of us who run can empathize very quickly with a runner in pain or injured. Thanks runners in the blogging world and other friends and family who sent emails or comments.
RPD, thanks for your icy thoughts. :) It was the first thing I did the AM I woke up. Realized pretty quick 13 miles was not going to happen, or any miles that morning. I filled up a large popcorn bowel (that's what we call it, since not a lot of cakes or cookies are made in our house) full of ice from the fridge. Fun? Aching, now frozen foot, while I watched the MSNBC and CNN early AM talking heads figure out life in the Beltway. I usually don't watch many of those shows anymore. After 45 minutes icing my foot, I remembered why. I wasn't sure what was more numbed - my foot or mind after listening to grown adults make life and death public policy issues a thing of AM talk show light hearted banter and babblings.
Okay, that is enough of that soapbox. Back to the foot. It is still there. The pain as well. Not as bad though. It will subside as I walk on it. Then, either, I step wrong or on something, and it comes back. It is not a sharp pain, so I don't think I fractured any bones in there. It feels a lot like a mild plantar faciititas (spelling) thing (or platter of fajitas as I call it). My ultra running nephew who is a physician has not been called yet for advice. However, all the runners who are Docs, and Physical Therapist my wife works with advice - not run for a week - 10 days, or till the pain has gone away while just walking around. Then try to run on it again. If the pain comes back - make an appointment. I do have a Podiatrist friend who happens to be a marathoner as well, however, he recently moved from Vegas along with everyone else we know and love while living here the last 5 years. My regular Doc? I know what she will say - stop running altogether. Bike or swim. Thanks?
Moving to San Diego? Not sure. Which probably is an answer right there. If our initial reaction is not - Wow, lets drop and go now - probably not the time or the job to jump and go for. Thanks for the advice on this one it was truly unexpected, but very appreciated. Yes, my gut reaction to anything San Diego is drop and go for it Meg Runs and Sis. Really like the area a lot. Yet, timing? Too many realworld things going on here in Vegas we have committed too. Both my wife and I would leave people, too many in fact on a rocky spot if we left right now. It will happen. If not SoCal, back to the NW. I just don't see us calling Vegas home too much longer? Yet, I still have the story of a close friend from Topeka buzzing in my head. Yeah you know the one. Were only going to be here 2 years tops, is now 13 years and counting. Face it, your a Midwesterner now!
Okay, Midwestern and SoCal inspirations. Jerbear thanks for your talk of Marathon training. Uff Da :), It had me rethinking my own goals on that. Especially, considering I have this down time with the foot. This along with reading the Running Fat Guys, final Long Beach Marathon Report. By the way, great job again! I just don't think Vegas RR Full is going to happen. Call it not feeling the Mojo for it, or "feeling a disturbance in the Force" about it. I just don't have a good feeling about that one. I live here for one, which for most would mean do it! For me, I like these events to be family events. I am just not seeing the Vegas Rock and Roll on the Strip being that. So, here is the plan Stan (yeah, Paul Simon):
Surf City Full in Feb. ( I am already registered for the Half), or the Carlsbad Full end of Jan.? If any of ya (wink, wink, Meg Runs) have done the Carlsbad or Surf City, I would appreciate advice or comments on the course and organization.
Oh, Big Sur Half? Even if the foot is okay, still in limbo.
Here's too a great weekend and Healthy Foot! Cheers!
PS - NEW pix for the week behind title. All that is my life at Zions National Park.

Gotta get that foot healthy before you worry about any races. Don't want a nagging pesky foot keeping company for months on end - that is a drag! And the doctors will always say give up everything for a month or so - they just don't get how much time and effort you spent building up to that point!
Get healthy and keep moving!
Hopefully not much else going on with the foot other than a bruise. You said you did it by stepping on a sharp rock on a run? I hope that's all that's involved!
And you are doing Surf City? I think we'll be able to meet there! I'll be signing up shortly. Only the half for me though - I'm still exhausted from last Sunday!
mmmmmmmm platter of fajitas..... now I need mexican ASAP! Isn't planning for races the most fun? I seriously get giddy when I start thinking and searching for ones that work with my schedule. :)
