Mickey Mouse called just to say it is safe where he lives. Well, he didn't call, it was an email. Plus, I doubt it was Mickey himself. I am sure like most insecure guys with big ears and nose, he made his girlfriend/partner/wife Minnie (where ever the relationship is these days) do all the typing.
Anyway, just as I was getting concerned hearing on NPR yesterday two Cali wildfire fighters died doing their job, not to mention families losing homes - I was thinking about the state of the Disney Half Marathon. Plus, not only if the air quality is good for running, but safe for two of my kids who are now sick with cold/flu symptoms. Anyway, thanks Disney for an email update from the Family Endurance Weekend Team (yes, that is what they call themselves). It was appreciated.
I guess now my only concern is Donald Duck coming up along side in a golf cart while I am running. Screaming at me with a bullhorn in a manner only he can scream - GET OFF THE COURSE! YOU SLUG! To which my response will be, "oh yeah? try and chase me off duck! Get those web feet moving and start waddling if you can?" Yeah, you're right? It was the very dream I had last night. I doubt it will come true. However, you know what my daughter says about those dreams coming true at Disneyland?
By the way after nearly two days off (yes, I really want to be running and I am crazy just wanting to get in three miles) my calves, are still very stiff and slightly sore. My ankles and quads feel fine along with Achilles and Hams. Yet, the calves? I guess I really needed this time off. Hope I get my spring back in them before Sunday AM?
Oh, more importantly, one child of mine is feeling better from his cold. The other is just beginning to come down. I just might make this trip alone for the race, but my wife says she will hide all my running shoes and shorts if I do. Well, barefoot running is an interesting cult following these days, ... hmmm ... and the shorts thing? Nah, will not go there. Sounds like another bad dream to me? We will work it all out.
Cheers!

Yeah! I hope your little ones bet better quickly so that your little ducks are all there to cheer you on! Keep your shorts and shoes on...it is the HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH, remember?
PS... that's truly incredible that Mickey emails. Better pass that one on to the kids!
GOOD LUCK!!! You will do awesome!

Meg Runs - no need to worry. I am not an exhibitionist. Even it means going barefooted. My wife really wants this to be a family support/post race love/bonding event for us. I just want my kids seeing their Dad doing something cool. Which is why I chose this event. Even though I think the minute per mile for each mile run policy is a little strict (what do run/walkers do?). I am doing this and the other races for my kids. I want them to see their Dad doing things like this. Plus, instill a since of adventure/accomplishment in them as well. Something you can only teach by doing/example.
I am not a huge fan of races. I love running. I love meeting fellow peeps at these events. I like the feeling of accomplishment when it is all done. However, I enjoy far more - just lacing up the shoes on an early Sat. AM and knocking down 6-10 miles at whatever pace my body can produce that AM. Even more so if its near the coast/beach or in the Mountains.
Thanks for the support! Cheers!
Happy Trails - Thanks for being there. I will feel your support at mile 7. Then again mile 10. These are my hit the wall distances. When a nice crystal, clear, chilly Rocky Mountain or Cascade Mountain stream would feel nice. Plus, watermelon. Don't know what it is these days, but I crave watermelon.
Keep kickin!
