I am not sure if you noticed the pix of the University of Washington Cross Country team I posted. They are good. Really good. Number One in the nation last year, and rated Uno again going into this season with a strong chance to repeat. Anyway look at the opening kick and stride of the lead women front and center in the pix. Amazing. I have looked at this leg extension with both envy and amazement. Oh, to be 20 years younger and have that fluid of motion and strength. Oh well, I am who I am at 43 and must make the best of what I got. Which, for the most part is not much. Too much time spent in my 30's not eating right and not enough of what I did today (okay, I will put the smallest violin away now).
This AM run was meant to be 10 miles, however, I ran out of time. Got up a little later than I needed too. Okay, It was long (but fun) weekend! I deserved the extra 30 minutes of sleep. So, anyway took off around 5:00 AM and got in 8.5 miles. My talented wife had some early appointments, so I needed to get home to Fatherly, Daddy duties of getting our little peeps dressed, breakfasted, properly hygiened, lunches made and off to school. Love this time with my kids. Something about them in the AM. Bright, happy and always cheerful. It starts with my 4 year old running downstairs to give me a hug, high five and knuckles as I walk in the door. He will burst out with a "did you kick some asphalt this morning Daddy?"
Anyway, the AM run. It was good. In fact, I did not want to stop.
I get it every other week or so. Not sure what causes it? Electrolytes just right? Good fuel base in me? Good night sleep? Well, actually a big NO on the last one. Whatever, maybe The Force is strong in me for at least these runs? Yet, every other week, I have the perfect feeling of wanting to run, run, and run some more. Great feeling of freedom. These are the runs that obviously keep me going even when I wake up feeling like my personal bagel doesn't want to pop out of the toaster. Today - a good run.
The month is coming to an end. It was fun with my first Half Marathon in 13 years. I took a week off after that event, and slowly got back into stride for the rest of the month. So, not a stellar month of miles overall. After a 6 mile mostly hill run Wednesday it will be over 68 miles for Sept. However, I am over the 500 miles mark for the year! I am at 508 right now. Maybe I should go buy a Nike 500 Mile Club T? Nah. Not a fan of Nike. Nike Internationalist was a great shoe for me back in 80's though. However, yet to find a Nike shoe that fits since. 508 Miles since January - makes me happy.
Anniversary was very nice for my wife and I. Nice night out on the town. Really good Italian Seafood at Ventano's here in Henderson. Great view of the Valley from our table. Spent some time on the Strip. Which is actually odd for us. Yes, we live here in Vegas, but don't LIVE Vegas if you know what I mean. I frankly think the Strip is one of last places on earth to find anything cheerful or happy. We did enjoy the Water show at the Bellagio, and had some really good Mango Gelato while watching water spraying all about and peep watching. It did not get me any more excited for the Vegas RR in December. More on that with later posts. I will see how the training in Oct. goes. Yet, I am getting this feeling to skip the whole event altogether. Will see?
Have a great Fall running season. If you are doing a race/event good luck with the rest of your training and have fun. Running Fat Guy, it sounds like LB Marathon will be a great success for you. Good luck, but I don't think you will need it? Again, Meg Runs, congrats! Is there a forthcoming pix of you kissing this large rubber Godzilla like Rat? However, now what? What's next on your running event schedule? RBR, good to hear from ya, and I know the elusive Mojo is right within your grasps. Oh, nice Platypus T! Happy Trails enjoy the Rocky Mountains this Fall and have a really huge C-roll on me. Can't get them out of my mind since I saw that pix. Have a great week everyone else! Oh, how could I forget?! Good luck to my Sisters family running St. George Marathon this weekend. She will be running it for the 17th time. This time with with her three oldest boys, who are not really boys anymore. Good luck! Will see ya for pizza the night of, save us a seat.
Cheers!

"Kick some asphalt!" Too cute. Glad you got in some miles this morning and it sounds like you're headed to St. George to cheer on the family?! How fun, that sounds like a neat race.
By the way...you are "enhancing" my story because the rat was not GODZILLA-size...just about the size of Daisy! Still, I don't have a pix but I'll find one because you still don't believe me, do you(ha,ha)!?
Sorry about the enhancements of the Rat. Wow, that sounds like a interesting title for something? The Enhancements of the Rat? hmmm? Oh, I believe ya alright. Just trying to understand what the Rat, a rubber one - had anything to with your race?
Great race, I just read your recent posting on your placement. You are my new Super Hero. So, whenever I write Superwomen in my blog - I am of course refering too SW (Superwomen).
Whenever we see a runner while driving around with the kids - in between games of slugbug - if we see a runner - we yell out "kicking some asphalt!"
... wait that didn't make sense? whenever I write SW (Superwomen) it refers to Meg Runs. Sorry typing too fast on the go. Have a great day SW!
I hear so many nice things about the St. George Marathon. I hear that it is a very beautiful run. A number of folks from my running club are going. Maybe next year? I've driven past on my way to SLC, but have never stopped there.
Slomo - thanks for your comments these past few weeks. Belive it or not, comments like yours help motivate me when I need to drag my sorry azz out the door for another double digit run. I am sure in a few weeks I'll look back and think that this wasn't that bad, but a couple weeks ago the whole training thig (both miles and hours) was becoming drudgery.
Thanks for the beta on Long Beach. I'm actually going to use the crowds to my advantage to keep me slow in the early miles. One of my big mistakes at San Diego was going out way too fast too early.
Ah - Las Vegas. Used to be a regular stop in my late college years. $15 rooms at the Stardust. Blackjack for hours at a time. It's been at least 5 years since I was last there though. We *did* have a great time - took the kids for three days. Saw Blue Man Group. Enjoyed the pool at the MGM. Glad you and your wife had an enjoyable anniversary!
Hi Glenn - St. George can be a nice place run. I tried for the Marathon this year but the lottery did not want me. My Sister gets in every year because she is a long timer that pre-dates the lottery entry. Just a lucky break that all three of her running boys are in it this year together. I will try again next year.
Great. Glad anything I say could be of use for ya. I have liked reading your progress and about your training overall. Positive LB will be a great experience.
Have fun in St George and enjoy your family time - great that your sis has kids who enjoy what she does! I'd mail you one of those rolls, but federal regulations prohibit sending something that unhealthy and decadent by mail!!!!!
