Anniversary Bliss

Vegas weather has been ideal the last few days. Yesterday, I took advantage of it and a 9-10:30 AM hole in my schedule for a Hill run. Maybe my favorite route to run. It is a hill run yes, however, the first half is down hill. It is also in my favorite area of the greater Vegas/Henderson area. Several very nice community parks the City of Henderson does an excellent job maintaining along the way. Rose beds planted right near the running path. Even though it is getting late for them, you could smell them a good 10 yards away. Number of runners and dog walkers out and about doing what they do best - living and breathing life. Temp was only 82 and the humidity was - 6%. Yes, 6%. Meaning, for the entire 6 mile run, no real sweat till I started up the steady incline back to my truck. It was the easiest and most fluid 6 mile hill run I have had in the last 6-8 months. Glad I had the time and the inspiration to just go. Very invigorating run.

Anniversary time for my wife and I. Very Happy marriage for 11 years now. She is my life. Wonderful, bright and talented. A never ending source of Love, patience, kindness and inspiration. No, my wife is not a runner. She is also not very athletic. However, she is incredibly supportive of all my early 4:00 AM wakeups, long outings on the pavement, and the many UPS deliveries of my obsession for the New Balance 1062 running shoe. I have three pairs in waiting still in the box with the white wrapping paper around them. I also now have a pair of New Balance trail running kicks as well. Not only this, yes, you guessed it, one of my already known about Anniversary gifts - a 4th pair of New Balance 1062's in waiting.

Why? Once you find the perfect shoe for you. Perfect fit and feel for who you are as a runner - you never want to change. Since, I have been wearing them - nada - none - nothing - never an injury while running in them. That says it all. They take care of me and I am extremely loyal in return. So, after all this said, another New Balance 1062 is the perfect Anniversary gift for me. I am sure one of ya has figured it out. I could take all I have said about a running shoe and say the same of my wife for the last 11 years. Except, yes, not only is she my perfect fit, feel and has always taken care of me - I love her. She is my wife folks, not a smelly pair of running shoes. Plus, my wife is Eternal and has my love forever. My New Balance 1062's - well they have been discontinued.

I am also a little nostalgic with regards to the weather. Last year for number 10 - a fantastic trip. We could've gone anywhere for a week to celebrate. However, after looking at it all, we decided the funnest and most romantic place (yeah you can stop choking on something, I used that word) - we picked the Cali Coast. Cali Coast on Highway 1 in a sporty two seat convertible. Started it all in Capitola (my favorite coastal town) and worked our way South to Malibu before heading east back to Vegas. A great road trip. A great time for us. Beach, Sun, Rugged Coasts, Splashing surf, Sea Otters, good food and great Inns along the way. It was bliss. The financial world and economy last year at this date seemed to be crumbling down around us. Yet, we were growing even closer, loving and living. A license plate outside Capitola said it all for us on that trip and for the rest of our lives - B WHO U B! I am really missing that trip.

This Anniversary? Well not as fantastic as that one. We will do something in town. Most likely a show and some very nice outside casual dining. I have two Soccer games the day off this Saturday. I will try and get my long run for the week 13 miler done tomorrow early AM (Friday) to ensure I have plenty of rest for the games and a great night out celebrating. Yet, it will still be the time of my life as long as I am with my wife and best friend.

Running. I should get in about 33 miles for the week. With Soccer now taking up most of my Saturdays, I am needing to change my running week. Monday, Wednesday, Long Run Friday, and short recovery run Saturday. Monday a medium length run, Wednesday Hill work.

Have a great weekend! Meg Runs kick some dirt this weekend and have a great race. Sorry to hear about Boy Scout, though. Everyone else, give it all ya have this weekend! Cheers!
PS - The above posting Photo is not Vegas (obviously). It is a stock pix of Highway 1 on the Cali Coast. The weekly Blog Title Photo is one from our latest Zion National Park trip.

Very sweet post about your wife(not the shoes although I do recognize the love for the perfect running shoe)! I love to hear husbands get poetic and conjure up analogies for their love and affection towards their wives, even if it involves running, shoes and athletics!
Sounds like you and your wife are a perfect fit and your children are blessed to see that each and every day!
Happy Anniversary, have fun and even staying close to home is a treat. Celebrate!

Meg Runs - thanks. I didn't realize how bad my sentence structure was in a few spots. I cleaned it up since you probably looked at it. I write these on the go sometimes, when I few minutes break. Brain works faster than my fingers at times.

Take care and have a great run! Sorry again to hear about the BS injury. It is the area of my legs I have the most concern while running.

How funny! I always make mistakes and have to go back and change them and sometimes I don't realize I've made a mistake for a day or so and it's so embarassing...especially for a teacher! I didn't notice anything...no worries and no judgements!
Yes, take it easy on the legs...they need to last a few more years at least! BS is doing okay which is nice...grumpy, injured men are NO fun to be around. I think I would have taken it much worse...

That part of California is one of my favorites. Oh to figure out to move to SLO. (Okay - maybe Bishop ranks a little higher).

Congrats on your anniversary! It's refreshing to see the ones that last these days. (I'm working on 24 this year).

Post race for me? All I remember of my first marathon is that I wasn't very hungry for quite a while. I just wanted to get off my feet and out of my shoes. And a shower. I think I started pigging out maybe three or four hours later. And at that point it was "bring it on!"

Oh - the whole water/gatorade thing raises some lively conversation. There's a big camp that says that you shouldn't mix it down or you reduce the body's ability to absorb the stuff. But at the same time, if this was true, then we wouldn't betaking electrolyte tablets/capsules either - right?

And Slick Rick? When are they going to open a sports book at UCLA?

Hi Glenn - Thanks for the nice comments.

Not sure I know anything more specific on the water/electolyte hydration ratio reasoning. I did not get a chance to carry on too deep of a convestaion with the Disney Med Tent Doc.

Although I have heard general mentioning of this in past RW Articles. However, this was the first I heard someone say 1:1 water/gatorade 20 oz mix.
I have a nephew who does many Marathons each year and some trail ultra distances. He is also a Physcian. I have not talked with him yet with regards to my post race Med tent visit. I will see him next weekend after he runs the St. George Marathon.

Have a nice taper and strong LB finish.

UCLA deserves just what it gets with Rick. Although, I hope it does not end up in NCAA investigations. I do like UCLA and would love to have any of my kids go there. Even though I am a bleeding UW Purple/Gold Alum.
