Another Unfortunate Loss

Needmorediscs in the Kansas City area is saying goodbye. Leaving us one less place to hang, listen and buy great music on Vinyl and Disc. I have never stood inside the store. However, as one who used to live the whole Indie Record Store lifestyle, I am sure it was the same as mine. Regulars coming in every Tuesday for the new domestic releases. Then again on Friday for weekly shipments of Imports. In between all that, all the kids in America coming in each day ready to have their budding musical world shaped or realized. Music never sounded better for the first time, than listening to it first on the Now Playing, in store turntable or CD player. Answering all the questions from how many different groups did Eric Clapton play for? How many members of YES are there? What was that Oh Yah song from Ferris Bueller? Is it pronounced SAWDAY or SHAWDAY? Until the End of World, is that on DVD? Is Johnny Marr and Morrissey ever going to make up? How old is Keith Richards? How many groups/artist list Velvet Underground, Big Star, Alex Chilton, The Hollies or Leonard Cohen as influences, but yet don't sound like any of them? When is that next Kate Bush finally coming out? Who is this Richard Starkey guy listed as songwriter on my Beatles Album? Holy Crap - this Elvis Costello dude has a 101 different CD's!?

Oh well, my best to ya Coleen and Eric Voeks soon to be former owners of Needmorediscs. I know daring adventures await ya. By the way, Coleen is going to kick some serious dirt and elevation sickness running Leadville this year! Coleen and Eric let running be your guide to it all.

Thanks for the kind words Brad! It's so very obvious that you worked in a music store for a long time.. that list of questions made me laugh out loud.. very hard! I'm actually looking forward to loving music again.. it had become a chore in the last few years and that sucks!

However, much I enjoyed music and doing the indie store - it was time. Main thing - and here is the cliche' - you gotta love what you do. When the labor of love starts becoming just a labor - time to make a change. Why spend your valuable time doing something you don't love doing? Good luck Coleen. I know Leadville will be a biggie for ya. Just being at the starting line is. Whatever happens after that will be super human. I can't wait to read your post Leadville blog posting!
